I have not had a HIV test done. However, I am not sexually active at this time either. If I become sexually active, I think it would be a responsible decision to get a HIV test occasionally to make sure that I am not a carrier or making anyone infected with this horrible disease.

Hi..
No i have not got a HIV test done.. because I am sure i have done nothing wrong like active sexual contact or taken blood or donated, yeah HIV tests must be carried out where there is no knowledge of AIDS... In many towns and villages people are still unaware of AIDS.. I think the respective governments must carry out some mobile education centers in these kind of places.. Only way to fight AIDS is to get educated bout AIDS.. |

AIDS is a disease that spreads mainly through blood transfusion or sexual contact, so if you are in a doubt after sexual contact with someone you doubt about, you can surely go for a test. If there is nothing such, no physician advices that test until they find any single symptom related to that disease.
The disease has many symptoms in various stages, so going to the physician for him to detect anything related to it would be better than directly going for the test of the disease like the ELISA testing. |

I have had the test done when I was pregnant with my son. I definitely think that people should get tested because if you are HIV positive you could be unknowingly spreading the disease to others.
The stress could lower how long you live with the disease but many go through out their lives with HIV because it doesn't always turn into AIDS which is significantly worse. You need to know so if you are you can take the necessary precautions so you will live longer and not give it to anyone else. |

Yeah, it would be really advisable to go for an HIV test, we never know. We could probably help prevent the disease from spreading further. If all are really aware of how big this problem is, everyone would not hesitate to have themselves checked. Once checked and found positive, they will be given intensive education about the disease so that they won't be totally disheartened by the discovery and could still go on with life like Magic.

I love Africa
|
I have read all your posts and everybody suggests going for an HIV/AIDS test but what would you do if tested positive? HIV positive is more than death itself in Africa and most people have the virus even though they don't know. Not only in Africa. A recent study shows about %25 to %30 of Caribbeans who went for the HIV test were HIV positive which implies that about %35 of Caribbeans are carrying the virus without knowing. The study also shows that about %10 of Americans living in the United States are HIV positive. HIV positive in America these days is like the common headaches because people living in America have access to quality drugs that can prolong their lives without ever noticing they are HIV positive. Going for the test in America would not be a problem at all for me with the assurance that should I test positive, that is not going to be my end because I am just going to take my medications on time. However, this is not the case in Africa. You do not have the money and you cannot get the drugs and hence HIV positive in Africa implies early grave. Without knowing you have the virus, you can live with the virus for about 5 to 10 years before the virus develops fully and hence kill you. However, with your test results in front of you, you will not live past 3 months. So what do you think?

As the saying goes...Precaution is always better than the cure .....
Hence, it is definitely advisable to go for such tests.....particularly if you are not a single partner person or fear your partner not to be one. In developing countries, it is all the more riskier even if you are supposed to get syringed....since one does find them non-sterilized..at times. Be strictly vigil on the ways this disease is known to spread and if you or your loved one is exposed to anyone of them even in the remotest manner, immediately have yourself tested.... Regards, Walker |
