Someone asked me in a private message how people get malaria in Africa and how malaria kills people. Not so many people in developed countries know about malaria because malaria is not that common in these countries. However, almost every African knows malaria and how malaria kills people. Malaria is caused by mosquito bites. The female anopheles mosquito carries the malarial parasite and injects it into your body anytime it bites you. Malaria kills faster than HIV/AIDS but Malaria to me is deadly although not as deadly as HIV/AIDS because I have suffered from malaria several times but still living why because there are several antimalarial drugs out there to cure malaria but there is no drug to cure HIV/AIDS. There are some antiretroviral drugs out there that suppress the harmful activities of HIV for sometime but those drugs do not cure HIV/AIDS and above all, those antiretroviral drugs are very expensive.
I take chloroquine anytime I get malaria and the malaria goes away within 24 hours of taking chloroquine. Chloroquine is not that expensive compared to antiretroviral drugs. The problem however is that, sometimes the malarial parasite develops immunity towards those drugs so that the drugs don't work again and that is why malaria is very dangerous in some parts of Africa. In other words, you take the antimalarial drug but still die why because the malarial parasite has developed some immunity towards that drug. Doctors sometimes combine antimalarial drugs in treating malaria. These days I don't get malaria why because I have developed some immunity towards the malarial parasite so I don't suffer from malaria again. Most adults in Africa have developed some immunity towards the malarial parasite and survive mosquito bites. However, most children have not yet developed that immunity towards the malarial parasite and that is why malaria continues to kill children in record numbers but not adults. Another problem is that, those living in rural areas where there are no hospitals and no health centers to get antimalarial drugs often die from malaria. The symptoms of malaria include feverish conditions, high body temperature, loss of appetite, and in some severe cases dizziness
There are so many ways and precautions one can follow to prevent malaria. Since malaria spreads through mosquito bites, sleeping in mosquito net prevents mosquitoes from getting closer to your body. Mosquitoes also breed in damp and bushy areas so clearing the bushy areas around your house destroys those breeding places for mosquitoes. These days there are even mosquito repellents you can apply on your body to repel away mosquitoes. There are also insecticides you can use to kill mosquitoes. The problem is that, not so many Africans especially those in the rural areas can afford these mosquito repellents, insecticides and mosquito nets. Mosquito nets for example cost about $1 each but one dollar in rural Africa is a very big money and not so many people can afford it. If you want to help the poor in Africa, these are some of the things you can do to help. You can help by giving mosquito nets, repellents, insecticides and antimalarial drugs to these people.
