Talking Smoking destroys sex cells - inability to conceive a baby

Smoking tobacco was probably started in 1000 BC by the Mayan Civilization and was never really commercialized until the 17th century. It was made popular during the second world war where soldiers were given cigarettes to boost their fighting morale. However, it was also around this period that the first ill effects of smoking were reported.

I was hoping that cigarettes were never invented. Why? They are nothing but trash. They are basically pieces of paper wrapped around tobacco leaves and then laced with thousands of poisons. They hook you up with one single puff, and leave millions craving for their attention. Many others are dying, dead or suffering.

Before you light your next cigarette, here are 8 solid reasons to quit smoking. Do not be part of the dead, dying or suffering statistics.

1.It makes your heart work harder. Most people die younger from circulatory problems than lung cancer. Cigarettes contain 2 main important chemicals namely nicotine and carbon monoxide. Nicotine speeds up the heart by about 20 heartbeats per minute with every cigarette. It also makes arteries all over the body become smaller, causing the heart to pump harder through the 'shrinking' arteries. Carbon monoxide combines with the oxygen in your blood to deny you of oxygen in your body. So here is what you get, an overloaded heart!

2.It dresses up your lungs with a thick black coat. Tar from cigarettes get stuck to your lungs (and mouth and lips and throat and gullet). This is the very same raw material used to build roads. So there you go, a nice, well-tarred respiratory system!

3.It turns people off. Most people do not like smokers. I used to be a smoker, and I didn't even like smokers around me! The main reason is the 'choking' and smelly smoke that cigarettes produce. It stinks your breath and clothes. It stains your teeth as well.

4.It robs you of your hard-earned money. Cigarettes are very expensive in my home country, Singapore. Rather than use the money to finance these tobacco companies, why not use it to travel or buy the things you like.

5.It keeps you awake. Nicotine is a stimulant and therefore it will keep your mind awake. This will definitely worsen the situation for people suffering from insomnia.

6.Smoking destroys our male sex cells, making it more difficult to conceive a baby. Pregnant women who smoke have an increased risk of miscarriage or premature birth. The child might also suffer from reduced verbal and
mathematical ability.

7.Unless you live in an island of your own, you are exposing your smoke to your loved ones. Those around you have to suffer from your second-hand smoke. Passive smokers are at a higher risk of contracting the nasty diseases related to smoking than smokers. Do think of your loved ones!

8.You age faster. It causes premature wrinkling. So if you do not wish to look like 40 years at the age of 30, it's time to snuff out that butt, for good!

Smoking is certainly a very killing habit. If you are a smoker you would realize the worth of my words. There are many options available in the market to quit smoking such as nicotine gums, inhalers and medicines like chantix, champix and zyban. Apart from these support measures what really is needed is the will power and self control.

I can't really see why someone would need more than 1 reason to quit but the 8 listed above are pretty eye opening if you ask me. I didn't know that smoking caused number 5.

Women who have never smoked in their lives and are married to smoking husbands face the risk of developing serious heart ailments. Second hand smoking can be disastrous to these women who are married to smokers. Among all the heart diseases, second hand smoking increases the risk of stroke also in these women.

you are right harolde, smoking is not just putting cigarette stick into your mouth but inhaling the smoke that comes out of cigarette.. sitting beside your husband who is smoking and inhaling the smoke is no better than your husband who is enjoying the cigarette stick

Default stringent smoking bans .....

Studies have shown that since the time when stringent smoking bans came into effect in the US, the number of emergency room asthma patients reporting to hospitals have decreased considerably. This study was conducted by the University of Kentucky and the results are after Lexington banned smoking in the public places. chantixhome.com

I found this interesting anti-smoking thing online. It's set up by an online video gaming company, Instant Action.

They are basically saying that people should spend their smoke breaks by playing video games instead.

For any of you who are trying to convince your loved ones to quit, it's worth a try.

Angry Be kind.

It's great that all of you don't smoke. However, I don't think any of you realize how physically and mentally painful it is to quit smoking. You seem to think your little list will make a difference to anyone already hooked. Well, it doesn't. Sometimes when life hands you lemons you just need a cigarette. It just shows that you are rude and extremely naive. Yes, Second had smoke is harmful- but please remember that if you are outside, you are getting such a negligible amount that unless you are seriously ill from other causes, you will be completely unaffected. When you put smoking bans on places you are limiting someone else's freedom, which should always be done carefully. If a bartender (and his staff) all smoke and want to allow smoking in their bar why should you be able to say that he can't? It's HIS bar. If you don't like it, you can drink somewhere else. Bans cause them to lose customers. Many bars have gone out of business because of smoking bans. (It's a bar, not a hospital, no one is in there for their better health. C'MON!)
MY POINT: Be kind to smokers, most of them want to quit and can't. Don't limit someone else's freedom to do what they want to their own body if it doesn't harm you at all. (Go to a different bar!!!) Oh, and your list is dumb, no offense. :p

I agree that it's unfair to keep nagging smokers to quit as it's not as easy as it sounds. However, without a doubt it's a bad thing. And even if there were no single health risks involved, it's still a waste of money. With that cigarette money alone you could cover a bit of the grocery expenses at the very least.

I think this is a good list. Yes, smoking have so much negative effects on our health. It makes people look bad (Yellow fingernails), smell bad and people around them feel bad (from all the smoke generated). So why smoke?

It not only affect the smokers, but also people around them as well. Passive smoking is more harmful than smoking the cigarette directly. Parents with children should spare a thought for their kids and stop smoking as well.

Those are actually good points for smokers to stop the vice. Although, I know that smoking is really difficult to contain and stop because my husband was a smoker before. He really had a hard time during the withdrawal time, he was always sick or easily gets sick. He started taking vitamin c or ascorbics and a lot of fluids, and thankfully, he recovered and ever since, he hasn't touched one stick. Today, he can't stand the smell of cigarettes, every time he's near a person smoking, and I told him that's the way I also felt before.

Name the topic of this thread as '8 reasons to not start smoking'.
I guess that would seem more attractive and useful. Nevertheless, you have compiled good info on it. I hope it helps others, I don't smoke!!

i admit smoking isn't good for you, i just quit myself. But i really hate people that moan about it...especially ex smokers. It's not a discusting smell is it really, you like it that's why you don't want to be around it.

as for passive smoking, yes I'm sure it can be a problem, but really you can't smoke anywhere these days and if your smoking outside you literaly have to be lowing the smoke into someones mouth to make them passive smoke. I'm pretty sure that the stale smoke smell, though not very nice, will not give your children cancer.

and i don't remember being hated because i smoked.

no offense but this is all a bit silly. Everyone knows smoking is bad for you, if you don't and you smoke you should pay more attention. But some of the points are ridiculous- I can't say anyone ever hated me when i did smoke.

passive smoking is almost impossible seeing as you can't smoke anywhere and if your smoking outside, you literally have to be blowing the smoke into someone's mouth to make them passive smoke. And I'm pretty sure the stale smoke smell won't give your children cancer.

"smoking is injurious to health"..we find this written at many places..even at the boxes of cigarettes but still people smoke
those who smoke regularly don't realize that smoking reduces their life span by quite a large margin
the most important factor required to quit smoking is MOTIVATION
one should be motivated enough and should realize the negative effects of smoking to quit smoking

I would imagine though that many smokers mentally just "can't" stop it though. Very interesting history though.

Glad I don't smoke. I hate smoking and smokers, and I don't think there are just eight reasons, there are many more.

Its a fool's game to smoke. Smoking doesn't help you in any way. Its just that it is a bit too addicting, so its better you don't smoke, or you might get addicted to it. And remember, sitting with a smoker is similar to smoking.

These eight reasons will be very helpful to those people, who are addicted to smoking and would let them know that how their future life is going to be . My friends are always forcing me to smoke , whenever I go to canteen with them, now I'm more aware than before .

well, it is true that smoking has so many damaging effects to the human body, an uncle of mine died of lung cancer after puffing cigarettes for almost 2 decades. It is sad that there so many ill effects of smoking and even damaging to conceive life but despite all this it seems that smokers are really having a hard time to quit until its too late when the damage is no longer repairable.
