Parallel life on earth! - the virtual world and the real life

I have been thinking it for quite a long time about the internet. It seems to me that we are creating a parallel world - one is online another is offline. Like real world we are gossiping, making friend,shopping,reading, learning, getting united for a opinion, sending and receiving emails or e-cards, earning money, spending it .. its like another world. Sometimes we meet some friend whom we don't meet or even will not meet in real life. We shop in a stores where we might never go in real life. Isn't it like a parallel world? Aren't we building a parallel identity of ourselves?
