Cats vs. Dogs - which are the better pets?

Without any question, cats are better. I've had cats since I was one year old, and the best cat I ever had was a beautiful black Devon Rex. That cat would follow me around the house, wait for me by the window when I was due back home, he would even follow me into the shower and insist that I used some shampoo on him as well. He would play fetch with me, and I even trained him to find small household objects on command. Amusing part was how he used to sit by the fishtank and meow at the fish. I was absolutely devastated when he died, but since being priviledged to have such an amazing pet in my life I'd gladly buy another (money allowing) of the same breed.

I get along well with cats in general, I can get cats that have only just met me to follow me someplace. Dunno why, cats just trust me and I seem to be able to understand them. Even cats whose owners reckon that they're timid seem to come up to me for a fuss... to the owners total amazement.

Dogs on the other hand, I'm afraid of. I'm ok with small dogs but large ones intimidate me and some large dogs even growl and snap at me. In short: I don't trust dogs and for some reason they do not like me. If I had to choose a dog I'd get a cat sized dog.

I think dogs make better pets. Well, that is my opinion I guess. They don't say a dog is mans best friend for nothing. A dog will always be loyal to its master and you can do all sorts of fun activities with your dog. As far a cats go, I think their behavior can be really moody at times and you can't take your cat for a walk or teach it many tricks like yo can to a dog.

here's what i think:
1:some dogs are good guards. but some really good breeds DO need a heavy amount of exercise, along with mental excersize; agility stuff lol. While there are few breeds of cats that are protective of their owners, and like most cats, can be happy with a couch, food, water, and sometimes a lazer pointer or a feathery toy or sock, and even a box!
2:most dogs just want to please you, to learn. Cats are very smart creatures, too! but mostly just want to please themselves first.
3:both can be adorable and , of course, funny!

I disagree. Our cats have saved us from a potential fire. While we were watching TV, i had my 2 cats running crazy between the kitchen and the sitting room. they were meowing loudly. Being a weird behavior, i followed them to see what is wrong. Guess what? There was gas leak from the oven and my cat noticed the smell and took me right to it. cat's unlike dogs they are fighters. They don't bark asking for help when they see a burglar ;P, they threaten and attack if it believes that the stranger will attack it or attack a loved one. Personality, independency, neatness mark intelligence and this is what a cat is all about.

Cats are territorial animals who respect territories. believe it or not cats faces dogs and in the majority of the time the dog ends up blinded. when a cat looks directly into the dog eye he freezes of fear. adding up please do compare apple to apple. i would love to see a dog fighting a wild cat. My reaction would be my condolence to your 3 dogs. Long time ago, my dad used to have a wild cat. Unfortunately, a stupid dog entered the house and ended up dead. my grandma looking at the blood all over the house called the police and asked them to take the beast. she did not want to end up like the dog

It really depends on your own personal choice.
I believe that a dog is always a man's best friend.
A dog understands if you are feeling down, or sad, and will always comfort you, no matter how much your dog loves you or hates you. A dog can learn tricks, eats almost every food, and loves to play.
Cats on the other hand, I don't like. That's my personal opinion.
Yes, they can learn, they jump high, they LOVE to play.
But a cat just doesn't understand as much as a dog does.
So in my opinion

Well I defiantly disagree with this.
Dog's are way more protective, and proven to think more like a human, AKA, smarter, than cats. Dog's aren't fighters? LOL. When on earth have you watched TV and seen a cat attack someone? NEVER. When have you watched on TV that a Dog had to be impounded because it attacked someone in a park. Yes, bad dog, because attacks a stranger and random person. BUT, I'm just proving to you, that they attack more than Cats. Cats are scared of dogs, Dog's aren't scared of anything, they investigate everything they are scared of, which makes them not scared of it.

Dogs are better, because they are much more reliable than cats, If you have dog in your house, means you have a 24x7 guard. But there is nothing like that for cat.

i feel dogs are better pets to me because dogs help us in many ways than cats.
for example. dogs keep our house theft free, it keeps us ever joy. and they will be sincere in their duties .The cat has only one advantage it looks neat and beautiful .anyway but i like the dogs a lot

Both of them are my favorite pets, but i prefer dog as dog is smarter and loyal. Sometimes the dog can protect its owner and save them

Cats are more independent and seek affection only when they want,a dog is always looking for love ^ ^
