Re: Who is Jesus and what is christ???
Jesus is a name although it is a name above all names. the keyword here is "name". Both Christ and Messiah are titles. Christ Jesus and Jesus Christ are just like saying "Dora the lovely girl" and "lovely Dora" or "Ben the adventurer" and "adventurous Ben". Both "Dora the lovely girl" and "Ben the Adventurer" refer to particular people. In other words, people can identify Dora just by saying "the lovely girl" but because there are so many adventurous people out there, we have to be specific. Adventurous who? Adventurous Ben. There were so many Messiahs (people anointed by God to redeem His people. eg King David, Samson, Esther, etc) in those days but there was one Messiah above all the Messiahs so when people used "the Messiah", they were referring to the one Messiah above all Messiahs. Even Cyrus the Great, the king of Persia, although not a Hebrew was referred to as a messiah. Although "the Messiah" refers to the One true Messiah, people wanted to be more specific. So Christ who? Christ Jesus. Christ (Christos in Greek) is just the translation of the Hebrew "Messiah" which means "anointed one".
So, Christ, Jesus, Jesus Christ, Jesus the Christ, Christ Jesus all refer to the same person(Jesus Christ of Nazareth).
There is no evidence suggesting that Jesus was born on 25th of December. On 25th December we "REMEMBER" the birth of Jesus of Nazareth although we don't know His exact date of birth. We "remember His birth" not celebrate His birthday. Some historians and theologians believe Jesus was born somewhere between September and November but there is no specific date. The Roman Catholic church selected 25th of December for Christmas somewhere around the 4th century to co-opt an existing pagan festival about the rebirth of the Sun at the winter solstice which was celebrated on 25th of December on the Roman Calendar.
