Default Which god did the Jews make sacrifice to?

Which god did the Jews make sacrifice to? Which god? The God of Jesus? The God of the Prophets? The God that delivered them out of Egypt? The God that would accept Cain if he would do what God said or the same God that said he would be their God and He would be their people if they would do what He said. None of the above? Then which god and how come?

Jesus answered a question with a question many times and I think I will do the same.

Who was the Jews giving sacrifice to in Egypt?
Who was the Jews giving sacrifice to for forty years in the desert?
Who was the Jews giving sacrifice to when Jesus was discussing who was their god and who was His God?
If sacrifice to a god for payment of sin is their religion and their god is who Jesus says it is, then which other religions say you must accept a sacrifice made for payment of your sins?
If you accept the same god as Jesus said the Jews had, who is your God?:o

Christians believe that Jesus Christ came to die for our sins. Jesus came to die so we may gain salvation. Jesus' precious blood washes away all sins and can make new even rotten bones. Because Jesus' blood washes away all sins, Jesus' death according to Christians is the ultimate sacrifice so we need not make anymore sacrifices. Abel the son of Adam made blood sacrifices to God. Abraham made blood Sacrifices to God (YAHWEH). Isaac the son of Abraham made blood sacrifices to God. Jacob the son of Isaac also made blood sacrifices to God. So as we can see, blood sacrifice was very important from the beginning (from the time of Adam) up to the death of Jesus Christ. Jesus' death pays for all other sacrifices. Jews just like their great great great grandfather Abraham continue to offer blood sacrifices to YAHWEH(God the Father) because Jews don't accept Jesus' death as the ultimate sacrifice. For a successful Jewish sacrifice, all these 8 requirements must be met:

1. The sin offering must be brought forth by the person seeking atonement, and slaughtered either by the sinner or by the priest.
2. Death must be caused by a sharp, perfect blade cutting across the neck, resulting in blood loss and swift death.
3. The offering must be physically unblemished.
4. In the case of mammal offerings (bulls, lambs, etc.) the offering must be less than one year old.
5. In the case of mammal offerings, the mammal must have cloven hooves and chew cud.
6. The sacrifice must be brought at the Temple
7. The sacrifice must have its blood taken by a priest and sprinkled on the altar.
8. The sacrifice must be salted.

As we can see, Jesus' death doesn't fulfill even one of these 8 requirements and that is why Jews don't accept Jesus' death as the ultimate sacrifice. Sacrifice to most Jews is the least important way to gain forgiveness from God. Jews just like Christians and Muslims believe repentance is the most important thing. Jews believe intentional sins require repentance and not blood sacrifice. Unintentional sins however require blood sacrifice. In all, repentance is the most important thing in Judaism and not blood sacrifice.

Exclamation Re: Which god did the Jews make sacrifice to?

Gloria, thanks for all the info on those religions. I was born and raised catholic. I went to catholic school. I was taught by nuns and priests. I was an alter boy for years. I learned the Latin language in school for I intended to become a priest. World War two came along and i wound up in the United States Navy. After I got out I met a girl and we are still married to this day. I say all this to point out I know these religions very very well.

I believed I asked a number of questions of which none and I mean none were addressed by you. For instance I asked who the Jews were giving sacrifice to in Egypt and sacrifice to for forty years in the desert?

Answer - And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice unto the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.
Acts 7:42
Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness?
Acts 7:43
Yea, ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan, figures which YOU MADE TO WORSHIP THEM: and I will carry you away beyond Babylon.

Jesus will give you the answers to the balance of my questions in the gospel of John and when he does, the last question will become self evident and might just pry the door of your mind open. Of course at that point is where one steps into the valley of decision. Most people do not want to take that step.

Default Re: Which god did the Jews make sacrifice to?

I'm sorry I deviated. I'll try and follow the questions one-by-one. Who do the Jews make sacrifices to? my answer would be YAHWEH the God of Jesus, the God of Abraham, the God of the Prophets, and the God that delivered them out of slavery in Egypt .
Who did the Jews make sacrifices to?
The Jews made sacrifices to several gods besides YAHWEH and the reason is that, whenever Jews or Israel went through hard times, most of the Jews if not the majority of the Jews(Israel) cursed YAHWEH, adopted and made sacrifices to foreign gods.

Who was the Jews giving sacrifices to in Egypt? first of all, famine in the promised land (Canaan) forced the Jews into servitude in Egypt and because of the hard slavery conditions in Egypt, most of the Jews doubted and rejected YAHWEH and then adopted several of the Egyptian gods such as Ra the god of the sun, Geb the god of the earth, Nut the god of the sky, Osiris the god of the dead, Amun the god of creation, and even Horus the Pharaoh. So the Jews in bondage made sacrifices to most of these Egyptian gods because they doubted the existence of YAHWEH until the arrival of Moses and Aaron. Even when Moses came the Israelites did not believe him at first. Moses had to prove to them(the Israelites).

Who was the Jews giving sacrifices to for forty years in the desert?
Once again, the Jews gave sacrifices to several other gods besides YAHWEH the One and only God and the reason is very similar to the above. When Pharaoh allowed the Jews to leave Egypt, the Jews were very happy. They sang praises to YAHWEH for delivering them. However, when they came to the red sea and heard that Pharaoh and his troops were after them, some began cursing YAHWEH and Moses for worsening their condition by bringing them to the seaside to die because there was no way to cross the red sea. They began singing praises again after Moses parted the sea. When they came to the desert they cursed again. They cursed and complained and God gave them water, they cursed and complained and God gave them manna, they cursed and complained and God added meat to the manna, etc. When Moses went up mount Sinai to get the ten commandments, the Jews again cursed and complained but since Moses wasn't around they forced Aaron until he made for them a new god (the golden calf) which they worshiped and made sacrifices to.

Who was the Jews giving sacrifice to when Jesus was discussing who was their god and who was His God?
Although YAHWEH is the One and only God in Judaism, not all the Jews worshiped YAHWEH. There were pagan Jews too who adopted foreign gods. So Jesus was talking about those Jewish pagan worshipers.
If sacrifice to a god for payment of sin is their religion and their god is who Jesus says it is, then which other religions say you must accept a sacrifice made for payment of your sins?
The true Jews believe sacrifices do not pay for all sins. In fact, they believe sacrifice is the least important way to gain forgiveness from God. Repentance is the most important thing when it comes to forgiveness in Judaism.

If you accept the same god as Jesus said the Jews had, who is your God? YAHWEH is the God of Jesus and the One and only God in Judaism so the true Jews worship the God of Jesus. However, not every Jew worships the God of Jesus and any other God besides the God of Jesus comes from the devil. So some Jews worship the God of Jesus or YAHWEH and others worship the devil.

Again I got a great lesson in Jewry and why they sacrificed and to whom. Pagan Jews, Yahweh worshiping Jews, idol worshiping Jews and so forth. Your post sort of sounds like a justification of why they sacrificed to other gods. Judaism is the religion of the Jews. As with all peoples there are those that believe and practice a religion, there are those who have no religion and then there are those who seek after righteousness and the source of what is good. And so it is with the Jewish race. Now the root of Jewry, the religion of the Jews, is sacrifice. Sacrifice was never given to the Jews by God as a form of worship or atonement. Psa.40 - Sacrifice and offering you do not desire, my ears you have opened, burnt offering and sin offering you have not required shouts King David. Then I said, I delight to do your will oh God, yes your law is within my heart. Now if God’s law is in his heart and God has opened his ears to hear that God does not desire or never required sacrifice, then the law of Moses is not the law of God for their good. So Ezek 20:24-25 Because they had not executed my judgments but had despised my statutes and had polluted my sabbaths and their eyes were after their fathers’ idols therefore I gave them also statues that were not good and judgments whereby they should not live. What was one of the statues they would do whereby they could not live? Hebrews 10;4,6 It is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins. In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin you have had no pleasure. If you really want to know what God thinks of offerings and sacrifices read Isa. 66:3 He that kills and ox is as if he slew a man; he that sacrifices a lamb, as if he cut off a dog’s neck; he that offers an oblation, as if he offered swine’s blood; he that burns incense, as if he blessed an idol. Yes, they have chosen their OWN ways, and their soul delights in their abominations.

Even Jesus said he will not have sacrifice. So Gloria sacrifice is an ABOMINATION to God. In fact when God tried to make a covenant with them at Mt Sinai whereby He would be their God if they obeyed His voice God gave them His law, the 10 commandments and then he said in Deut.5:22 - These words the LORD spoke to all the assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness with a great voice and HE ADDED NO MORE. No sacrifice, no offering. no none of the laws of Moses. The law of Moses was a curse for rejecting and not obeying the voice of God and went back to their way of the works of the flesh. Offerings, killing of a sacrifice, etc.

It is sacrifice that is an ABOMINATION to God. That is the sin of Jewry. Jesus told Jewry and the adherents to jewry he would not have sacrifice. Jesus did not say Jew’s God was the devil but Jewry, their religion was of the devil because they refused God’s plan of obedience and chose their own plan of sacrifice and the law of Moses, a curse.

What I am getting at is any religion that has sacrifice at it’s root has the same god as Jewry. A religion that says it’s god requires a blood sacrifice to be made to pay for a debt owed him is not the God of Jesus. The God of Jesus is a God of mercy, not the god of an eye for an eye, as in the law of Moses. Any one who believes this is the plan of God and accepts a sacrifice was made for them as a salvation plan from the God of Jesus is deceived big time. I will have mercy and NOT SACRIFICE says jesus. Believe in the finished sacrificial work of Jesus on the cross shouts the christian religion. If a man keeps my sayings he shall never see death says Jesus. if a man accepts the sacrificial death of jesus on the cross his sins will be paid for and he shall be saved from eternal death says christianity.

Makes me sick! No wonder Jesus spoke to these lovers of an ABOMINATION in parables so they could not understand and be saved. The law of Moses with it’s sacrificial system is a curse to the Jews for not accepting God’s covenant of obediance to His voice but going back to their system of sacrifice and offerings to their god, the devil. That Gloria is why anyone accepting sacrifice as the will of God as a method for Him to accept you has the same god as Jewry, the god of killing for blood for his appeasement.
