Default The God of the Bible and the moral code

If you are a Christian please actually pick up the Bible and read it before you tell other people what it says.

I'm not sure how anyone can say the Bible is a moral code to follow. The God of the Bible allows slavery, including selling your own daughter as a sex slave (Exodus 21:1-11), child abuse (Judges 11:29-40 and Isaiah 13:16), and bashing babies against rocks (Hosea 13:16 & Psalms 137:9).

The Bible may say "Thou shall not kill" in one section but it doesn't follow its own rules. In 2 Kings 10:18-27, God orders the murder of all the worshipers of a different god in their very own church! In total God kills 371,186 people directly and orders another 1,862,265 people murdered. Every other page of the Old Testament God is smiting someone.

If you wonder why so many of us are atheists it is because we have read the book and thoroughly reject what it says we should be doing in order to be "good" people.

This is the Bible you are talking about and the Bible is not a literature book so you cannot take it literally all the time. God speaks in proverbs not in plain language and it takes only the wise man to understand and that is why it is very important to pray to God for understanding before you open the Bible. God is mysterious and we cannot understand everything about God because our minds are limited.

Since the bible originated in a largely illiterate society you would think God would have made it comprehensible for the people he was trying to reach, that is unless the people he was trying to reach were the elite educated class.

But have you read the New Testament too? If you had then you would understand that Jesus (God Incarnate) DISAPROVED of barbaric behaviour.

If you've read the New Testament, then you should be familiar with the story of a woman who was about to be stoned to death for adultery, and Jesus stopped the lynchmob by saying 'He who is without sin cast the first stone'.

He also once healed a non-believer's sick daughter.

Didn't Jesus also once say 'an eye for and eye and everyone becomes blind'

Jesus never harmed anyone, he was the perfect reflection of the perfectly benevolent God because he was God incarnate.

Please read the New Testament if you haven't already before you judge the Christian faith as barbaric.
