both of them are silent and slow killers. in my opinion, smoking is more harmful than drinking because drinking has many forms like drinking wine or beer or whiskey. so it depends on what you are drinking but on the other hand, smoking is an individual's biggest enemy in every form

well, this is quite a dicey question. but still when it is required to answer this, i think drinking in limits is less harmful to the body than smoking. there is a particular reason behind that nicotine in cigarette is much more addictive than alcohol. smoking once started is hardly reduced while drinking is comparatively easier to quit if it has not reached a dangerous level.

They are the same, but really God gave us free will and is omnipotent, so he must have known we would smoke and drink and therefore condone it. I enjoy a drink now and then, and it is involved in a lot of Christian churches so really can't be that bad. Remember Jesus turned water into wine... non alcoholic beer.

Both smoking and drinking are bad enough to kill you. If someone has any of these bad habits, give up at once. Life is beautiful. You don't need to smoke nicotine in order to enjoy your life. And drinking is not going to take you anywhere either. SO, don't compare, just give up. Take a deep breath and say to yourself - "I am alive and I am not going to shorten my life".

I believe that both smoking and drinking are bad, but if someone wants to do them, that's fine with me. They can choose to enjoy life however they want; and if that means doing self-destructive habits, all the power to them.

I think smoking is worse from the health perspective it causes more damage. I think alcohol does more damage to your mind, family and society. Drinking nearly destroyed my marraige and my life. Alcohol id pure evil to me.

I don't consider drinking as bad as smoking. Smoking is the worst habit a person can have as it not only affects you but also affects the people around you. And studies have shown that passive smoking is even worse than active. There are a lot of problems associated with smoking which people face like problem with respiratory system, heart and many more.

Smoking is worse. By drinking you harm only your health, but by smoking you harm the health of the people around you (passive smokers)
I'm not a smoker and I will not mind if someone sits next to me and drink ... what do I care ... but if he smokes - bad for me , it stinks and there is no fresh air ... I hate to sit next to smoker ...

I think smoking is more dangerous one because, you start from stick then after how many years you increase it gradually, you can smoke on many places and it can affect the health as well your family. Which we would like to avoid.

I think they are both bad. They are both the same. Smoking kills faster. Alcohol kills slower but brings shame and disgrace which seems rather worse.

Smoking by far.
Some of you are saying it's a tough question.
Not really.
Drinking kills brain cells.
Smoking kills brain cells, and LUNGS.
Without brain cells, sure you might be dumber, but without lungs, you cant breathe=death.
They are both and, of course, but smoking is a faster killer, and more addictive. it also kills people around you, VIA the smoke. Drinking doeskin dissipate, so it wont spread like smokes does to other people.

Anything in excess is harmful to health.
Smoking is hazardous and can result in cancer of lungs or blood cancer and many other types.
Drinking in moderate quantity doesn't harm a person, but one can lead to drinking a lot and the person can become an alcoholic which is not a good thing to risk your liver,is it?

I'm 100% agree with your words if we look at the direct damage that smoking&drinking does. But let's look deeper at drinking: there's lots of car crashes then drunk people driving after parties or some meetings, etc..which is not only dangerous and FASTER KILLER for his self, it can be a problem for all surroundings..That's my oppinion.

Thanks

My opinion says drinking in moderation is far better than smoking (in moderation).

What do you think? Each country has its unique culture of drinking and drinks but smoking is pretty much a mono-culture isn't it.
I think smoking is the worst. You are not only dying, but killing others too. Drinking, in moderation, is proved to be beneficial to health, while smoking is not. Smoking is cancer inducing, and is one of the most important causes of cancer. And I can't agree in any grounds, to both, but drinking is ok, as it contributes lions share of the economy here in India.

Thumbs up Re: Smoking or Drinking:Which is Worse?

In my opinion smoking cause adverse health effects not only to smoker but also to family members surrounding him/her when they inhale the smoke air. Lung cancer caused due to tobacco smoking can also lead to death. But, in case of drinking, Drinking alcohol is not so worse as compared to smoking but can lead to liver disease. Alcohol consumption only leads to loss of concentration . So, driving vehicle while drunken can be avoided. In my view, smoking is worse than drinking because smoking not only kills you but also others by its intake of polluted air.

Smoking.Without a doubt..researchpro makes a good point about passive smoking. Smoking affects those around the person as well as they inadvertently inhale the same smoke..I honestly can't see any benefit of polluting your own lungs !

Drinking is only a problem if done in excess. Light drinking is known to have its benefits. Alcohol is a great tool in cold conditions when keeping warm is the prime concern..

Of the two, smoking is more dangerous, it not only kills the smoker but also affects the next person, so smoking, if possible should be completely erased!

Drinking has the most dyer immediate affect. If someone has been drinking and then drives, he puts other people's lives at risk.

Both are bad but smoking is worse if comparing the two. If you drink and don't cause troubles after drinking then there is nothing wrong with that. But smoking will kill you in the long run. Drinking is also harmful but better than smoking.

I may say both are dangerous...
Smoking spoils your lungs.. alcohol spoils your liver.
So you can't say which is important liver or lungs???

I am trying to stop smoking not because smoking is a sin. If you read the dead sea scrolls and other historical documents, you will come to realize that most of the early church leaders especially the those in the Catholic Church were smokers. As for drinking, it is a common thing amongst all denominational groups.

I would rather someone smoke a pack a day than drink a bottle of hard stuff (I am thinking 30-40% or more) per day, but however they are both bad. Alcohol makes you impaired, not so with smoking a cigarette.

Both are bad in my opinion. Drink but don't get drunk. don't drink yourself to death. don't drink away your pain because over-drinking multiplies the pain. Smoking kills no matter the length of the cigarette stick.

Both are bad. smoking is like committing physical and social suicide. Drinking in excess is like committing physical and mental suicide. none of them is good.

None of them is good. The Bible never did mention of smoking being a sin but that doesn't make smoking a right thing to do because smoking destroys your lungs and can kill you. Drinking is also bad because it damages reputation and boils your kidney and lungs

To catholics neither is a common sin, drinking could be associated with gluttony which is a sin, so if your drink and get drunk, over induglence of alchohol thats sinful. i do both i guess cus i was raised catholic, alcohol can impair judgement which can lead to sin. I wud intrepret it as being frowned upon by priest and holy men.

As a Christian, I believe smoking is worse. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit- therefore we have no right to be ruining our bodies for a "quick fix".

I believe drinking is ok if it is in moderation- not to get drunk. However, I think it is wrong to drink around someone that has a problem with alcohol- We should not be encouraging alcohol to an alcoholic.

I think we all need to search for ourselves what we believe in regards to smoking and drinking. We all will have a different opinion- we just need to try not to make someone stumble.
