Lightbulb Smoking or Drinking which is worse?

Of the two most common sins...which one is worse : Smoking or...Drinking?
My opinion says drinking in moderation is far better than smoking (in moderation).
What do you think? Each country has its unique culture of drinking and drinks but smoking is pretty much a mono-culture isn't it? It is true to both smoking and drinking are bad but if you ask me to choose in between these two which one is worse, I will say smoking is worse and that smoking a greater sin than drinking from my religious point of view. According to the Bible, you can drink but remain sober. I know a guy who can drink about seven bottles of beer and still remain sober. Smoking on the other hand has no moderation.

So smoking and drinking which one of these two is worse considering the physical damage and your religious point of view?

I think that the two are just the same. In the sense that they would only do harm to your body. Remember that God created our body to become his home and since you are drinking and smoking you are disrespecting God.

Both adversely affects the health of a person, but I think smoking is the worst one because it pollutes the atmosphere too.So it'll also create health problem of nearby persons.

I think both are equally bad for a person. While I agree with smoking polluting the atmosphere, I think that drinking can have horrible effects on others as well. We have seen countless automobile accidents that were caused by driving drunk. This has affected not only the person drinking, but also passengers and other innocent drivers who were trying to follow the rules. Also, look at all the families that have split and children and spouses that have suffered abuse because one person in the home decided to abuse alcohol. So I don't think that I could honestly say I believe smoking is worse than drinking.

I agree that both are bad for you and others around you. I think that drinking is worse because although cigerettes might give you cancer or others around you cancer, drinking has far more dangerous and devasting effects. Drunk driving kills not just one or two people, it can kill whole families.

Banning either of them is the worst idea since prohibition. Each person should use their own body as they see fit, as long as it doesn't immediately infringe on someone else's rights.

In some countries like Dubai and those Desert countries, they don’t really allow drinking alcoholic beverages. If you were caught drinking then you will end up in jail.

However, you are allowed to smoke those big pipes.

I agree totally. When people smoke it can cause problems for everyone around them. BUT drunk driving can also affect inocent people. In the end they both are bad and can harm other people.

well, we know they are both bad but the question here is which one is worse?. i think it is written somewhere in the Bible that "drink but don't get drunk". i don't think it is written anywhere in the Bible that smoke a stick but never a pack a day hence i take smoking to be the worse. you can drink but don't get drunk because i never get drunk.

I don't think that either drinking or smoking is a sin. They might be bad habits but definitely not sins.

We can't condemn people who do either because all of us have some bad habits. Both smoking and drinking might be harmful to our bodies but most things are, even the air we breath.

By the way, I don't smoke or drink but do not look down on others who do or believe that they are doing anything bad.

you have a point there. most Christians especially the Jehovah witnesses and some Catholics belief that drinking is not a sin so far as you don't go drunk. to others such as the Pentecostals and the New Apostolics however, drinking is a great sin. I personally belief that a little alcohol in the body isn't that bad but making it a habit of drinking alcohol all day in day out is rather too bad. smoking on the other hand is totally bad. smoking is very harmful and it kills slowly

I think smoking is worse because there are more opportunities to smoke. Example; you can smoke at work, you can smoke while driving, etc... With all the opportunities to smoke its no wonder why its so hard for people to quit.

It is now illegal to smoke whilst diving and at work and in most public places here and in most countries so I dont agree with that. I think both are addictions and should be treated as such, both can be done socially or to excess.

Default Why did our government clamp down on smoking?

Why do you think our government clamped down on smoking? it surely was not for our benifit, as they don't care about our health, like they put Fluoride in our water, Aspartame in soft drinks, GM food, Lipitor, Mercury in vaccines Insecticides, Biotech, etc, so it's not for our benifit, Hitlers Nazi Germany did the same thing. No it was the start of 'You can't do this, and you can't do that', to get everyone used to taking orders from the State.

Yeah, I was sure glad when they banned smoking in public places. I remember the pool halls were always so nasty with cigarette smoke!

why do we put smoking and drinking on the same category. i don't see the point.

I don't smoke but i drink beer and wine. So, i makes me a half sinner! So all people in Germany are sinners because they drink a lot of beer. False!

Beer only goes to your belly not to your head! Once alcohol alters a person mind to a make a decision between good and bad now that is abusing your body. because you are not in the proper state of mind.

while smoking is you being on a state of mind which you know smoking kills and you continue to abuse to your body! that is a sin, if you will ask me.

I think that smoking and drinking liquor is neither a sin. Both of these two activities causes harm to one's health when done excessively. But between the two, I would prefer drinking over smoking. You can drink wine in moderation, which is said to be good for the heart. While smoking, it doesn't give any positive benefits at all.

I think that both are just identical. In the sense that they would make only the evil with your body. You point out that God created our body to become his house and since you are drinking and smoking you treat without respect God.

Although both smoking and drinking are equally harmful for a person, but since i used to smoke i can say that i found drinking extremely strange thing to do especially as most drinks make you feel drowsy and you cant even drive after drinking. These are some of the major after effects that do not happen to a smoker. Besides, drinks are costlier!

I don't consider either a sin. There's studies that show wine is good for you and can help you live longer. Some cultures believe that tobacco helps to cleanse you. However, I do believe the problem lies in "excessive usage". Anything in moderation is usually ok. But the only thing that I know thats good in large amounts are love and health. Smoking and drinking aren't on the list.

I don't think that drinking and smoking is neither a sin, too. Put having these habits are compromising there health. But between the two, I'll choose drinking over smoking. Smoking won't do good both in small or huge amount!

These two are the same for me. They are different in the sense that they have different effects of the body but they have the same denominator which is destruction of the body.

For me, this is also a form of sin. God told us through the Bible that our body is His temple. We must keep it clean and healthy.

Both of them are not good.
Asking to pick one is like asking if a knife is bad or is the gun bad.
Both of them directly or indirectly cause damage to our body.
Though everything can be enjoyed in moderation.

In Islam, smoking is a sin according to most scholars. While some say it's a bad thing to do, not a sin, but will be a sin if done frequently. While drinking alcoholic drinks is a big sin. Islam prohibits them because they are bad for you.

I think both are pretty bad, but having a small drink once day/every other day is alright - so I've heard. But drinking too much can lead to disasters, especially if you drive and you're drinking over a friend's house. Smoking is bad for you overall no matter what, from what I know, due to the chemicals that's in each cigarette. So I guess I would say smoking is worse.

Smoking and Drinking are the same. Those two things are very dangerous, but the process is slow. maybe the effect will appear after 10 - 15 years.
I was smoking when I was just 17, but after I saw some presentation about how dangerous smoking is, I quit smoking instantly.
In that presentation, I saw how smoker's lung and heart compared to non smoker.
It's so scary to look at those pictures.

I live in the United States so we are brain washed to think that drinking is fine and smoking bad but I think drinking is a lot more harmful to the body than smoking. I would say having a pack of cigarettes and drinking a 750ml bottle of liquor are the same and if you drank one bottle a day it would harm your body much more then smoking a pack a day.

I consider drinking a sin and smoking a bad habit. Basically Jesus said you are not to drink of strong beverages. Smoking is not a sin but is a bad habit which would ruin your lungs. Although if you do sin then it will reflect you as a bad Christian.

I personally think smoking is worst. They're much more accessible and allow you to do it over long periods of time. You can do that to drinking too but if you have a weak will, then you usually lose yourself over to one of them.

You can buy 1 bottle of liquor and it will last you for months. I know instances of people going through half a carton of cigarettes a day.
