Is money Evil - Can we say money is Evil?

Money is the root of all evil. People kill for money. people hate because of money. People are been cheated, beaten and crucified because of money. However, money is needed in building temples and cathedrals. There are many cathedrals and church houses but money is required to establish those.
Do you think that it's virtuous to be poor? Many people do. In many religious traditions holiness is in part accomplished by turning your back on material things.The idea is that to appreciate the spiritual you need to totally forsake the material. Or at least get as close as possible. Many have taken vows of poverty to pursue this goal.

But, I'd argue that it's a not quite that simple. Money is just a tool.You wouldn't say that a person was bad because they had too many tools. Money is just a way that we have of exchanging things. By itself money has no value. It's not necessarily good or bad. It's what people do with money that is good or bad. So the problem is with the way money is used. Not the money itself.
One of the most misquoted verses in the Bible is that "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil" (1 Tim 6:10). It's the love that causes the problem. When you place your affection on money you become vulnerable to troubles. The mere fact that you have accumulated some wealth does not make you bad.

So what does this have to do with achieving Financial Independence? Good question! Actually, quite a bit.
First, to be financially independent means being in control of our money. Not to have our money control us. So we need to be careful not to fall in love with our money. If we do, we'll begin to let money have too much influence over us. Just another way of saying money is in control.
Secondly, a belief that money is bad could be sabotaging your desire to build wealth. If subconsciously we believe that all money is evil, then we'll push it away from us. We'll find it hard to do the things necessary to build a savings account or IRA. I've even heard people say that they have a way of 'repelling money' or that they're 'alergic to money'. We can't see our subconscious, but it has a large impact on what we do and say. Sometimes it even ruins our own plans.

Money can never be evil. If money is evil then why would God bless some people with money knowing for sure that money is evil. God does not bless with evil and hence money cannot be evil. Money brings people rather closer to God. Money enables us to realize who we are and therefore come to realize where we are coming from. Money brings people together. Money can bring love and happiness. Money is almost everything.

Money isn't evil people are, think about it since the beginning of time when man found the use of a rock and bone they have been killing each other it wasn't until later that currency was created even though the first currency were seashells it still created the greed we see today.


Not all people with money are evil, for example, bill gates is known as lifes most successful person and in the end he made a foundation with his wife and basically donated almost all of his money. It is the actions that people do with money that is evil. So in my opinion no money is not evil but people are.

I think that people are evil, or at least they can be. Money is an inanimate object, it cannot have an inherent 'good' or 'bad' quality, it just is. To be evil, you have to be sentient and able and willing to make negative choices that effect others without care.

Even living things with no malicious intent cannot be evil. Look at animals, are they evil for hunting prey? No. So if something with sentient thought can be innocent when it kills, how can something with no soul or even brain function be evil without intent?

I don't think money itself is evil, but money does make people evil. People will do stupid things for money, but you have to remember that some people are forced to do stupid things for money, because they need it to survive. My father recently joined some meditation grope that are thought by some Indians or whatever and they teach people that money is of no importance and that they should just take it easy in life. That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Even they make money from their teachings and classes and what not. It is impossible to survive other wise.

i think it's human tendency to blame everything and anything for every thing that goes wrong but themselves. money- what is money? it's just a parameter of exchange created by man himself. money is not alive, it cannot speak or think but we humans do. we have the ability to decide upon things and money is just a medium in the hands of humans but even then they blame it for the sins that they themselves do on the name of money. i think the biggest evil that exists is the human mind, it is full of malice. it is the one who is slave to the hands of greed and selfishness. it is the one who is corrupt and it is the only evil not money.

People look up the social factor which comes with having a lot of money and strive all their lives to have the same. Its actors/famous people which portray this as a great lifestyle which makes many want the same. Materialistic useless things that no one really needs like expensive clothes, nice cars, massive houses with more rooms that you know people.

Not to mention the amount of drug dealers causing deaths due to them wanting more money than they really need. Drug production in Columbia has killed loads of people.

Money is just pieces of paper. It's not evil but humans attach a meaning to these pieces of paper. Money is just a scapegoat for what's really wrong in the world - humans. We're so engrossed in getting these pieces of paper which really don't mean anything..and we'll do anything for it. It's despicable and wrong, but hey, humans are humans. We can't really change our psychology.

Money is only evil if the motive in which you use it is evil. The man that seeks money, never has enough. So, it's the LOVE of money that is evil. Money can do much good and help many situations if your heart is in the right place to start.

Personally I think that it is rather ridiculous to suggest that something as necessitous as money can really be considered evil. Of course, one should never let yourself be completely motivated and obsessed by money. Those that are killing for it are obviously bad or desperate people but it is surely not the money itself that should be considered evil.

Everyone in the world is a large money ventilator as all love to have money with them. The money enables us to realize that which we must and thus come from there to return account to us from where we come. The money brings together people. The money is an inanimate object, it cannot have inherent a good or the bad quality, it is right. Money is not evil but what we do with money rather makes it evil. If you are using money to support others especially the poor, then money cannot be evil. But if money drives you into killing someone, then you are rather making money evil.

Well money is not evil but it has become a cause of evil due to our Failed economical system which allows it to kept in the hands of few financial geniuses who learn to exploit the system.

If the world is able to develop a perfect financial system through which they can perfect the money circulation then almost all the crimes would be finished and as the money would continue to circulate the class system would also be finished and i believe that the world would be closer to unite.

I prefer the Islamic economic system which is sadly not being utilized by any country these days. In it due to zakat and sadka the money always lands in the hands of the poor or to be used for them,but such a system requires perfect administration and no corruption which seems hard for the world.

Islamic economic system also bans loaning and profit on loans and so credit card and dept would be completely banned.credit cards are one of the things that makes people use the money they do not have and thus causing them to be put under too much debt which they have to pay from their savings or amount kept for their daily needs.

No, money is no more evil than any other inanimate non-sentient object. Money can be used for good or for evil, but it is neither good nor evil in itself. Money can be used to bribe somebody or somebody might kill for money, but most people use money to do the weekly shop and to buy other necessities.

It's a bit like guns, some people say guns are evil, but I would argue that it is not the gun that is evil but the person who uses it to commit a murder; somebody else who lives in a very poor country can take that same firearm and use it to hunt for food.

No, we cannot say money is evil, it would be like saying beer is evil because it makes us alcoholics. It is the choices we make with money that determines its Good/Evil value. Money is both a blessing and a curse because it gives us the power to help or hurt others.
Money is not evil, rather the worship of money is, placing value on it rather than other things, it is idolatry which draws us away from God.
The truth is that the worship of money, which is the root of all money related problems (greed) is worthless because once you go it cant be taken with you.

Well I would say, money, by itself, is not evil. It's like asking, is a Knife evil? I mean it can be used for both cutting veggies, and for slitting throats. So it's not knife, it's the hands that use it that matters. Same in the case of money. I would describe it as a tool, which is very dangerous, at the same time, can be very useful and yielding. So spend it for good, at the least not for bad, and money ain't anymore evil.

No, money is not evil only till the person with the money is using it in the right ways, money becomes evil when we the people use it in a wrong way.

for example, i have got some money with which i buy flowers i.e. here the money wasn't evil but instead of flowers if i would buy some alcoholic product the money automatically becomes evil.
