Can We Trust Today's Bible translations?

Many people are afraid today's Bible translations can not be trusted. In fact there are many who claim the word of God to have been so skewed over time through translation that it no longer holds the true doctrines of the Christian religion. Nothing could be more laughable than that.

The language of Hebrew and Greek is still available today to study. The very Torah itself matches with the translations of today. To say that the bible has changed is to believe that God has allowed His word to no longer exist in the world. Since Jesus Himself said "There shall not one jot of the law be done away with", we can be sure God is strong enough to keep His word in our world.

Bible translations of today however are not all what we consider translations. They are paraphrase Bibles. What that means is people have begun writing in their own words what they think the scripture is saying. A paraphrase Bible can thus be skewed since it is based off of the knowledge of the person writing it instead of a word for word translation. That is why Bibles such as the NIV, NASV, and so on should not be looked at for deep study.

These paraphrase Bible translations do however hold the main message of scripture in them. They can be looked at as someone giving their account of the Bible. Thus these Bibles are not inherently evil. They just do not do justice when you need a deep study of the Bible.

We recommend the KJV and that is what we use on this site. This is because the KJV is a word for word Bible translation and not a paraphrase Bible. For many years it was the only english Bible. At the time of its translation the scribes had been commissioned by the king to write it. They did so with the utmost care going so far as to take a bath before they wrote. We all should also know that when you try to pull a fast one over on the king and change the words the punishment is death. For these reasons alone I believe the KJV to be the best for deep study.
