I'm an atheist and i believe that when you die you die. You die and you get recycled back into the earth. So through death you give life. Every part of you is used to help new life.
I agree with another that the fear of death is a reflex emotion in us, like in animals. A rabbit will bite of it's own leg to escape a trap. Why? The fear of death. All animals have this, including us.
For me i don't fear death, but i know i will fear the process of dying. Only natural.
On approaching death many turn to religion because of the fear of the unknown.

ofcourse I am afraid of death. I wouldn't be afraid of death if I know what is there after death but since nobody knows what is death after death, it makes perfect sense to fear death. What if afterlife is worse than this life? I am a Christian but I still fear death because not all Christians will go to heaven and I don't know my stand yet.

Fear, discomfort or anxiety over anything unknown is a very normal trait built into humans. in fact most animals experience the same feelings under these conditions. So in this respect we can be happy we are normal. But . . . .

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep his commandments for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good or whether it be evil. (Ecc,12:13-14)

My faith is in the mercy of my God who is full of everlasting mercy and forgiveness.
Many have their faith in the unmerciful killing of a human for it's blood to offer their god for payment of the debt of their sins.

I think I will choose the God of Jesus who will have mercy and not sacrifice. At 84 years old I don't think dying is so fearful when my faith is in a God who loves me when I keep his word and will extend his mercy and forgiveness to me to prove His love when one overcomes evil and does works of righteousness.

I like your answer very much. Death is not for one person alone. everybody is going to die no matter what but where do we go after death? that is the question most people refuse to answer and that is the question you answered. If you have no God then you are good for nothing and you just die and perish after death but if you have God, you are above death. Death has no control over you. You may die but you will live forever as Jesus said. Most people worship their money. some worship this world. others worship fame and the devil. for those people, there is no hope but if you believe in and worship the Almighty and merciful God, death has no control over you. Thanks very much for your answer.

Bible Re: Are you afraid of Death and Dying?

I am extremely afraid of dying. The thing that scares me the most is the thought of for ever. For ever being dead. I also fear the uncertainty of not knowing what will happen once you die. I am a christian,so therefore believe in heaven. This, for me does not help the prospect of dying become easier to take in because I just don't know whether or not I will goto heaven for certain. I am only in my early teens so I try not to let it freak me out but it does anyway. Does anybody know of any useful websites that might help this fear?Scared,Ruby

Thumbs up Re: Are you afraid of Death and Dying?

Personally, I'm not afraid of death. I don't worry about what will happen, when it will happen, or how it will happen. Whether I like it or not, it will happen. Death cannot be prevented, but only delayed by the modernization of our society. Living in a poor nation, perhaps a third-world country, will surely expedite the process of death through natural or unnatural causes. We live in a world of disappointment, and life without such drastic letdowns would surely not be life at all. Death is the only logical escape from the miseries of human existence, and only those desperate enough to do so will muster the inner strength to "pull the trigger," so to speak.
