Question Abortion - Is it fair to bring an unwanted child into this world?

The pope advocates (and some other religions too) that 'Abortion' is against the tenets of Christianity and God. What do you think? Is it fair to bring an unwanted child into this world? Only to see it suffer for the rest of it's waking life...

Your opinions!

The Pope is strong on "Judeo-Christian" tradition; but in this area he needs to understand the traditional Jewish understanding regarding abortion. The baby is in a woman's body, therefore, it is the woman's right to choose what to do with it.
Especially, it mustn't be that men decide what a woman does with her body. Women must have the power to decide their fate. Abortion is always a tragedy, but it may be the only way to prevent larger and more numerous tragedies.

An unwanted child to one, may be a loved child to another, I think that by saying, as a general argument, abortion should be allowed because the child will suffer in life, is not acceptable. There are many people that adopt and love their adopted children. There are many better arguments for the support of abortion than this one.

I believe that abortion because a child should have the right to enjoy the world. Let’s say, cruelty is waiting for him/her here, he could change his/her life by doing all that it is necessary to change it. He controls their destiny.

Your post isn't easy to understand. You say on the one hand the child has the right to enjoy the world and on the other that it should be born into cruelty regardless. How enjoyable is cruelty exactly? Why do we have all these laws against child cruelty if it's such fun? Really, that makes no sense.

I can get as metaphysical as the next person, but in the real world, bringing a child into the world that's unwanted for whatever reason and into an environment that will be detrimental to its wellbeing is more cruel than anything.
We can all offer opinions but I don't think anyone has the right to tell anyone else what choice to make, religious leaders or not. Of course, if they'd be willing to take on board bringing up these kids as their own until they're adults, maybe that'd be different. But they're not. Every woman should have the right to choose, period, because at the end of the day, she's the one left literally holding the baby, not you or I or them.

Do we want to go back to the era of backstreet abortions, of women using coathangers to rid themselves of the fetus, dying from botched abortions being carried out by unqualified people? Women would still get pregnant accidentally same as they have for centuries and if the day came that it was no longer legal, abortion would still happen but would be far more dangerous as it would no longer be above board.

Just for the record, I've never had one but would hate to see it becoming an illegal practice.

I strongly believe that the woman in question should have the right to choose just because it's such an immense decision to have a child. Part of why the Christian Church is so opposed stems from Biblical law which didn't understand human gestation (for instance thinking that semen itself was 'alive' and that the moment of conception was the beginning of a baby's real life). This is always going to be a difficult argument due to personal feelings but I thought I would chime in.

I think that in certain situations abortion is a move them some women must take. Imagine being a rape victim who must go through the day constantly looking at a reminder of that event, it must be heartbreaking.

Personally, I believe that abortion should be a women's choice but I hope that women will exercise this right of choice carefully as it involves termination of a potential life.

Yeah abortion is the right way.I do support abortion.Termination of pregnancy is done by both married women & unmarried girls. In case of married women,it is done because they don't want a child & in case of girls,it is quite necessary for them to abort.

I think The Pope should save his ruling on this issue until the day when he grows a uterus. Then, he can choose for himself and allow women to do the same.

It is a womans choice. LOL Sagemother.
If a woman was having too many abortions for whatever reason, it would be her Drs place to educate her on the facts that having too many is a health risk.

Thank you SageMother! And I absolutely agree. After years of working in foster care and seeing the consequences of the abuse and neglect that children have suffered, I'd rather the pregnancy be terminated. And for those who would deny a woman's right to choice, perhaps they'd be willing to sign up to foster the children who are forever physically and emotionally scared.

I’m just trying to point out that abortion should not be the choice of the mother because the child has his right to leave.

The child can change their life if they want to.

I don't think there's any point giving birth to an unwanted child, only if it doesn't have to do anything with sex determination. If the reason for not giving birth to a child is gender, then there's nothing worst that can happen next. On the other hand, if there's anything which can effect the child's future, which makes the child unwanted, it's better to abort. Since there can be several other reasons for the child being unwanted and every situation has a different answer. . . so it all depends on the parents how they take the situation to be. . .

this entire pro- abortion argument is stupid and wrong.

1. women's choice: bull crap, the baby living inside her is a SEPARATE living being and needs to be cherished and treated as such. ending there life is murder no matter how you try to explain it away.

2. people will do it anyway: dang your right, so we should just legalize murder right since you know ppl will do it anyway, this way ppl would not have to be so secret about it and try to hide it /sarcasm

3. unwanted child: there is this amazing program called foster care where children find family's. I am sure a life of foster care trumps no life at all. Bad things happen to people every day, but to say there better off dead is a stupid assumption.

4. rape: again bad things happen but this still does not make abortion the right option , there is foster care that the child can go to.

5. children are the result of sex and if you don't want them don't have sex it simple as that, you make a mistake and get pregnant well you have to live with the consequence that comes with it.

Cool Re: Abortion - Is it fair to bring an unwanted child into this world?

I believe that everyone has a right to their own choice, yes you may look down on people who do consider abortion but why bring in a child that isn't wanted? When becoming a new born on the earth, and it not being in a safe place why make it go through that? If you are not suited or ready to have one thing that can change you're life, bettering it or worsing it then don't make you both go through a miserable life.

I think that this message is completely up to the person who is going to have the baby. The reason being is that why would someone what to bring a baby into this world if they know that they can't treat this baby with great care. I don't think that people should be judging others who do have abortions. Most of the time people aren't ready to have a baby, they are still young and make a better life for themselves, and when they are ready they can have a baby then and give it the best care that they can give.
