Default Which Political Candidate do you trust the more?

For some reason, political candidates have chosen to present themselves as better than the average human. They have, in the past, espoused holier than thou "morals" to either set themselves apart from the rest of us, or to manipulate public behavior.

Candidates who accept their own humanity have, in the past, been ripped to shreds by candidates who use moral standing as their platform, but it looks like this might be changing.

We have heard of Obama's being a smoker, but he remains popular. This might not be in spite of his personal habit, but in fact may be because the average person can better identify with him.

Given the choice, would you trust the candidate who used moral standing as his platform, or would you trust the fellow who was closer to the general population in his habits and lifestyle?

I would definitely trust the "average person" candidate more than the person who uses a morally based platform.

I think leaders taht are more like the average person are more humane and understanding.

Same here. I would also definitely trust the average person more than the so called 'pseudo-moralist'. A person with a good governing track record though with warts and failings in his personal life would be more attractive than a hypocrite. Many elections pander to the follies of the candidates concerning their private lives. I would be more concerned with his governing skills.

I too have to go with the more average person. It is so difficult as it seems that many politicians change their ways more times than one can count.

I would probably trust the average person more although there has to be something else to base their qualifications on. GW Bush somehow manages to promote himself as 'average' and 'morally superior' at the same time though.

Cool

that is a very good question but to be very frank with you, I don't trust anybody.. neither the Pope nor the Bishop, the Pastor nor the reverend, arch Bishop nor the Catechist, Obama nor MCcain.. they are all human beings..

Smoking doesn't mean immorality in my opinion ,so I don't think that a smoking Obama may be somehow less than a non-smoking Obama .
I would be curious what the average man concept imply ?And what about above average ?
Personally , I would trust the politician with high moral standards , like no cheating, no telling lies , no stealing funds .
Smoking , drinking wine , telling a joke and other things alike are not "flaws" ,in my opinion.

Good point cognitive. I agree that I don't want a politician that lies, but that'll happen when pigs fly . One thing I don't ever understand is that Republicans are all about having the government leave me alone. Don't tax me, don't tell me how many guns I can own, etc. But, they have no problem with the government acting as the morale police. No abortions, no gay marriage, and death penalty is ok. That sounds like government intervention to me...

Rfc...no..its not intervention at all...its just a set of beliefs...is there something wrong with that? Isn't that what this country is about?..My beliefs may be different than yours..but I'm still entitled to have them.

As far trusting a politician...oh please....not a chance. And lets be realistic here...No "common" man ever runs for office...except maybe on a small level..local towns and so forth.
