It has been said that the war in Iraq was illegal. What was illegal and who is accountable for the illegal actions? Whats your stance?

Well I think it can be argued that the war in Iraq was illegal based on the fact that Bush directly superseded the UN's jurisdiction on opening combat. I'm not sure but I remember hearing that the 'war' was never declared as a proper war as well which could factor into the debate of its illegality.

I'd have to agree with RFL based on Bush's actions with the UN. I'd absolutely love to see this one debated at the "official" level.

For sure! This would be an incredible debate to be brought up by professionals. It seems unlikely to happen but if nothing else it would set a benchmark for the US having to play by UN rules like every other large nation.

Of course there were war crimes associated with this fiasco.

Articles of impeachment were submitted by fellow named Kucinich, that worked their way to committee where they will die....for now.

I hope that some one will push for a trial of a different nature, once Bush leaves office. There is no reason he should get away with everything he's done to have his way with the world.

Absolutely. The problem is that we will never see a clear resolution to this sort of thing because an American president is always able to operate above the common law regarding war crimes. They simply have too much power to be normally affected by their actions.

You know, if impeaching Clinton over a blow job was good enough for the Republicans, impeaching Bush over all of this should be good enough for the rest of us.

Let the games begin!

The reason for the war in Iraq as has been pointed out not so subtly by so many analysts, was not chemical weapons or Saddam Hussein or the threat to Iraq or Kurdish plight. The reason simply was a three letter 'dirty' word - OIL.
This is been borne out by two facts,
First, no evidence of chemical weapons have been found...
And second, lately the U.S oil companies have started getting all the oil contracts.

That's not war against Iraq, but it's war against saddam Hussein. That's completely illegal. And it's shame that no country had opposed Mr.Bush strongly, otherwise lacs of people would be saved.

It wasn't even a war against Saddam. The U.S just needed a scapegoat to further there hold over the Gulf Oil and Saddam was easily available with his history of Kuwaiti aggression and oppression of the people in his own country.

How many people on this thread are actually American citizens? Bush did wrong by going into this war under false pretenses. And truthfully, Saddam needed to be brought down. He was a despot of the worst kind but maybe the people of Iraq should have done it theirselves. Terrorism needs to be stopped, which is what Bush is trying to do. 9-11 was a catastrophic act of terrorism on our soil, without us going to war yet- in the current Bush's term. I don't know what he would have to be impeached about. I don't believe either that Clinton should have impeached for what he was, he just got caught where others hadn't. But, no. I don't think Bush commited war crimes, how could anyone else think that?
