Women are so lucky nowadays because there are so many pro women group fighting for their rights. Unfortunately, this isn't enough to protect women against domestic violence. Government officials, specifically the law making bodies, must do something to solve this problem.

I think that the only way to deal with domestic violence is by putting those who beat up their partners in jail where they belong. Let's face it, domestic violence is a form of assault, but in reality it is worse for somebody to be constantly in fear of being beaten up by the person who supposed to love them than it is for them to be beaten up in a pub brawl because of a drunken row.
People who hit their partners do it to exert control over them, that's true whether the perpetrators are male or female. It messes up the mind of the victims to the point where they are either too frightened to get out of the abusive relationship, or they believe that they deserve the beatings on some level. Domestic violence is a form of manipulation in this regard. If there were stiffer sentences for the brutes responsible, then they'd think twice before beating up their partners. DaughterUK |

It is not just turning your wife into a punching bag. it is not just beating your wife to death. It is not just restricting your wife in doing what is right. It is not just raping your wife. It is not just insulting your wife. It is not just the words but also the action. Most husbands especially those in the developing worlds put all the household chores on their wives and in addition topple them with numerous pregnancies. I traveled to a village in India in 2006 and I was shocked to see the way the women work as slaves. The women do almost all the farm work and also the household chores while the husbands sit under trees chatting with friends. what do you call this treatment? Is it fair?

Women should always be respected in all matters or circumstances. It is a very serious problem and the law has need to review. Even in that improved and mechanized the world, men behave correctly against women. The main problem which is to be solved first is that they should need comic and also many women rights won't come ahead. Moreover, it is very hard to make the situation like this.

Well, in the past women in India have been treated badly and have been discriminated as compared to men. They had been kept under four walls of the room, made illiterate. Now, in developing India, the position of women has improved a lot but still there are violent cases of rape, abuse, dowry which Indian women are facing. In order to fight out these problems, women need to be alert and police should spread over the cities and very strict action should be taken against accused persons.

But anyway, I would like to add some more points opposing the view about laws. There are women who will take wrong advantage of the law. There are many such incidents happening here in India. So I think the laws are sufficient, but the thing is that the implementation of the existing laws is the part which matters. |

Issues of dowry and domestic abuse should be treated harshly by the women themselves..they shouldn't carry on living in their suffering and take the hard decision of leaving their partners.. As for cases of eve-teasing and rape, I firmly believe that the law needs to be empowered to make an example of such offenders...to deter further incidents of the sort. |

In places like Bangladesh, Pakistan and India, the culture of these people forces women to be submissive and inferior to men. I read in certain parts of Bangladesh, it is even a taboo for a woman to save money rather she must give all the money she earns to the husband and the sad thing is that most of these guys are drunkards who don't provide for their families so if the women give their earnings to the men according to tradition, they end up suffering which is very sad

Well, it really takes time for cultures from different countries to accept that women should have equal opportunities and equal footing as man. In our case, it took us a hundred years before our society realize the role of women in our pursuance to nation building.
Now to answer your question, you already have laws to punish culprits and it would really take time for nation to adapt those laws. Probably, it would take a woman president to lead your nation before you notice the changes and implementation of laws to protect women. In our case, we have to be lead by former president Cory Aquino to a bloodless revolution before we truly valued the importance of woman to our nations interest. will you agree? |
