I respected women in any aspect and I am proud of the many successful women in the world that is why I am disappointed everytime I hear about women violence.
The government should study the laws well about this. Women are to be loved not to be raped, molested, abused, etc. I also suggest that women should have a self-defense lessons in order to save themselves from a possible violence. |

I recently watched a documentary about American female soldiers that are fighting in the Iraq war. Of all the stats and numbers that were given, the ones that disturbed me the most were the number of female soldiers that were sexually abused. Not by terrorists or the like, but by other American male soldiers. Just thinking about it now makes my blood boil. Imagine going to war only to discover that your biggest battle is coming from a person that’s supposed to be on the same side as you.
I won't even get into how many of these soldiers are actually sent to trial and convicted. ![]() The first problem that needs to be solved is that women need to stand up. A lot of women just won’t come forward. I know it’s hard and pain-staking to do so but keeping quiet will only make this horrible problem worse. |

I guess that is happening because men are beginning to feel threatened in their position as the house leaders ,as they used to be once. |

We need to tackle this from a common sense approach. Women being educated, being part of the workforce, etc. all have nothing to do with ending rape and abuse against women. Remember, rape is a crime of opportunity. Just by leaving the house a woman increases her chances of being a victim of some sexual crime.
Having harsher punishment for rape won't stop getting women from being raped just as having the death penalty doesn't stop people from getting murdered and having tougher drug laws doesn't stop drug trafficking. What we have to remember is to stop treating traditional and natural feminine qualities as something negative. The goal of gender equality shouldn't intend women to be more like men but for differences to be respected. If someone mentions that women are physically weaker then they are accused of being sexist. The best way to prevent women from being raped and abused is to educate them on how to protect themselves and empowering them with the esteem to leave abusive situations. What would you have your own daughter or mother? The power to protect themselves or harsher punishments for those after they abuse them? |

As for as rape goes, that will always be a problem. There's always sick individuals out there. As for general abuse, there will always be abusive people as well, and as far as unfair treatment goes in terms of someone making them feel inferior, some people are still ignorant in that matter. Luckily there are laws to prevent this from happening, but as you said they don't always get the job done. But if the woman speaks up, she can get something done about it.

Educating women and making them aware of their rights is a way to deal with the malaise. There are laws to protect women, and even while many women are aware of these, it takes a lot of gumption, audacity and courage against heavy odds to rise and complain against violence committed against women. We, as part of a responsible society, should act as facilitators in the process.

Yeah, there are a lot of laws created re violence against women, nowadays. Even with the severity of the penalties/punishment, there are still a lot of men who commits the crime. Women should immediately report any untoward incident against them, in order to stop the person from repeatedly doing it. We know it's not new that we hear reports that even members of the family, i.e. father, uncle, etc., abuse some women, either the women fear that person or are ashamed about what happened, that these don't get reported and also gets repeated. The doer then becomes bolder and bolder and would look for another victim of his evil acts.

Violence in any form has to be outrightly condemned...
More so...if it is against women. Woman are inherently built little weak in physique than males and hence there has to be some restrain necessary on the part of males when dealing with females. Women are made beautiful and soft...Why does one need to use force on them? Instead learn to appreciate their beauty...... Respect for a woman defines the real character of a man.... Violence against women is very common.
As you said the culprits should be punished, but in future also they should not even dare to rag any woman. Women should themselves learn some self-protection techniques to help themselves . |

Thanks, Walker! I really like the way you describe and define women. I just hope that more men should have the same view as you, then we would have no problem with abused/maltreated women. Women are created not as toys or punching bags by God but they are there to provide support and be a lifetime partner to men. Women should also learn to stand up for themselves and not let their husbands and boyfriends continue abusing them.

These things are going to continue forever. As long as there are horny men out their, they are going to try to seduce or get some chicks some way or the other.
There are violent women too. Men who are at the receiving end of this violence tend to keep quiet as it will be a disgrace to them to disclose it. |

About the violence against women...
There are many types in this case. At home, at public places, in offices, mental torture. Each one has its own roots and different effects. What I can suggest is to take preventive actions! 1. Educate our own people to respect women (yes even girls need to learn that) 2. Immediately take legal help in case you feel insecure. 3. Behavior! My mom always tell that keep your behavior such that no one should be able to raise finger upon you. |

Violence against women were raised from the society's degraded outlook of women and their efforts to "hold women in their place ." i read and heard and seen about these unpleasant occurrences almost everyday; from the daily dose of verbal abuse at home, to the lewd comments on streets, to sexual aggravation in the workspace . Even jealous boyfriends who hurt their girlfriends because of entertaining doubts in their shallow minds is but a sign of violence against women ..

I love Africa
|
Violence against women is very common in the developing countries. This is mainly due to illiteracy. Unlike in America and in many other developed countries, women in Africa for example do not have equal rights and equal opportunities as men. Men are considered superior to women in these societies. Men here are regarded as lords and hence have the right to discipline their wives. These cases occur in the cities but not as frequent as in the villages because the illiteracy level in the villages is always higher.

this problem of sexual abuse with women is increasing day by day as the ladies are working out more and are acquiring positions in society but its not because of this that the incidents are increasing but there are some other more critical problems. usually women are afraid of embarrassment in front of others so they refrain from reporting such crimes, men on higher positions always try to offer promotions and other incentives to women in lieu of physical relations and sometimes women who are in need are frightened of loosing there jobs, the laws regarding such an abuse are not appropriately strict..... these are some of the factors.

This is a very sad side of the society which exists even till today. Especially in developing countries where there is a dearth of opportunities for women to come up against men and equal them in every aspect of life.
But still times have improved than about a 50 years ago. Talking about the subcontinent ,Indian society has seen a radical shift in the status of women in the society. A healthy amount of reservations, women only education centres, right to own any property and other such revolutionary bills have proved to be a paradigm for what needs to be done to improve the situation. Hope this awakens people up!!!! |

This is really sad situation in our society, not only nowadays but it dates back in time. Women have always been placed second to men, and this still happens in some areas. This misconception needs to be changed by proper education... Starting at a young age, kids need to be taught the value of respect and dignity for each individual, as they grow older, they would keep it with them.

Unfortunately a lot of crimes against women go unreported. Which in turn encourages more crimes. I personally know women who were shunned by society for crimes that were committed against them by no fault of theirs. The ignorance of such educated people is absolutely pitiable. The women end up accepting that 'it is a price of being a woman'. I feel very strongly against this topic. I think more awareness for the crimes and punishments would help curb such crimes.

I can't imaging knowing someone who's beating his wife. I'd kick the crap out of him if I knew anyone doing that, but come on sure there is a lot of violence against women, but I'm sure in some cases the men are not the only one to blame. It's said that it takes two to rumble right, however in most cases it is the male counterpart that overreacts.

I feel that women should be supported when they defend themselves. Men are able to get off scott free using self-defense as their argument, yet women don’t have this luxury because of our “petite ness”. My niece was beaten up by her husband when she was 7 months pregnant, and what did the responding officers do? They made HER leave the residence because HE was the one paying the rent. They almost arrested her because he had a scratch on his face, yet they ignored the bruises on her arms and neck.
