The Search for the Truth - Problem with All civilizations

I'm writing this post because I believe that there is something horribly wrong with almost all civilizations, including the western world in which I live. What's wrong is that people have stopped looking for the truth about things, they are content to be told what to think instead of thinking for themselves. As a result humanity has developed a lot of warped ideologies that have then become enshrined in law.

In the West, some people like to argue that the truth is subjective, that it differs from each persons perspective. In other words, they claim that perception itself is truth. In all fairness, this argument is seriously flawed. Think about it: say you've got a class full of small children, and you ask ten of them 'what is 2x2?' and each child gives you a different answer ranging from 1 to 10. Only the one who answered four would have given the right answer, the truth. Each of the other kids will firmly believe that they've given the right answer to their teacher, but their belief will not make the wrong answer right.

What exactly is truth?

My definition of the truth simply this: a verifiable fact.
If there is not enough information to verify something as definitely true, it cannot be treated as absolutely true, only probably true.
Something that is probably true will be a conclusion arrived to without fallacy and with the use of all available information.

So you see, there is no such thing as subjective truth.
The very idea of subjective truth is harmful to the human race, it allows ideologies such as political correctness to run rampant (and that one is a direct threat to freedom of speech).

Then there is the belief in outright lies. When people are taught what to think and not taught how to think, harmful and murderous ideologies are left unchallenged. Think about how many Jews died at the hands of Hitlers unchallenged ideology. Think how many more will perish if Islam remains unchallenged.

If I'm presented with a new idea, my thoughts are: okay, is any of it actually true?

People, the truth is objective and it is our job as the human race to find it.
