Re: The most dangerous social and cultural issue.
This is very interesting. I'll try my best.
"What is the most dangerous social and cultural issue today."
several social and cultural Issues came into my mind. Terrorism, war, corruption, abortion, poverty, hunger, HIV/AIDS, famine, racism, slavery, ethnocentrism, inequality, discrimination, etc.
"This issue has done untold harm since time began."
There have been Poverty, hunger, famine, ever since God drove Adam and Eve out of the garden of Eden. Corruption has been there for a very long time. In fact Judas the Disciple of Jesus was very corrupt. Prostitution has been there for a very long time and prostitution has done great harm but I left it out because of the "untold harm". Abortion has done untold harm and abortion is very common today but I am not sure if abortion was that common in those days. Also, HIV/AIDS is out because HIV evolved in our generation. slavery, racism, ethnocentrism, inequality, discrimination and war, have been for a very long time. War was very common in those days and war is very common today and war has done untold harm since time began but war is caused by so many things especially inequality, injustice, discrimination and most of all, ethnocentrism and ethnic cleansing like what happened in WW2 when the wicked Hitler destroyed so many Jewish lives.
"This issue has caused the death of untold millions upon millions of good innocent people since time began."
I'm beginning to think more about war because war has caused the death of untold millions of good innocent people since time began.
"This issue has, is now and forever will keep good people in bondage."
This is making me doubt war a little bit because I'm not sure if war keeps good people in bondage unless maybe prisoners of war.
"This issue has kept people poor and made the leaders and institutions of this issue super wealthy."
I'm not sure if war makes leaders wealthy. I'm beginning to think more about corruption and of course corruption and oppression cause war as we can see from what is going on right now in the middle east whereby people rebel against oppression and against those corrupt institutions.
"This issue has been the justification of corruption in politics, in truth, and everything else connected to it."
This is making me doubt corruption a little bit because I don't think you would use "justification of corruption" if you meant corruption. Also, the "Truth" here is making me think outside the box a little bit.
"It is influencing our whole voting system. It is influencing the candidacy of the people we vote for."
When it comes to voting people look for so many things including the nature of the candidate whether religious or non-religious and what he or she can do. Race and color also play a role especially in America because I learned most black Americans voted for Obama. Although racism has caused great harm, I don't think racism has caused "untold harm" and also I don't think racism is the major cause of wars in today's world.
But religion is a major issue. Religion has been there since the beginning of time and religion has done an untold harm since time began. Also America is the only country that doesn't pay much attention to religion when it comes to government. Even in the Bible religion has caused so many deaths. The children of Israel fought and killed the idol worshipers. Al Qaeda and terrorism in today's world are mainly due to religious extremism. Even what is going on in the Middle East and North Africa right now although influenced by oppression and inequality is also influenced by religion because I keep hearing Al Qaeda and the Islamic brotherhood in the news.
"I could go on and on and even find a few positive areas of this issue but they are so miniscule by comparison I will not"
Of course religion has lost almost all its benefits. Most religious institutions today are corrupt and they have turned the truth upside down just to benefit themselves. Most of us make the leaders of these religious institutions rich while we wallow in poverty especially in Africa and in the middle East. And when it comes to anger, Muslims especially get angry very easily anytime you mention Prophet Mohamed without the "PBUH" attached to his name.
I am not sure but although you did not mention 'religious issue' in this post, religion affects every aspect of our lives be it social, cultural, or even environmental. For example, most aspect of the African culture has something to do with the African traditional religion and religion has become almost an inseparable part of the African way of life. Religion affects almost every aspect of our lives although it benefits a selected few.
I am not sure but religion seems the best answer for me right now.
