Default Questioning your government - True Patriot

I feel like those people who are upset with and question a government when they feel like things are going wrong are the true patriots! Why is it that so many people label these people as unpatriotic? What do you think, unpatriotic or true patriots?

If the questioning is logical, then their shouldn't be a problem at all. The public should be the conscience keeper of the nation. An open society and a healthy one always raises questions. Debates over the functioning of the government is part and parcel of democracy. Otherwise, it becomes a dictatorship.

If a person feels like things are going wrong, then sure, they need to question the goverment. Unfortunetly, it might not help them get any answers.

If you have the time to argue with those who are seated then do it. Otherwise don’t waste your time because they will never let you win when you got them on a debate. The governments are getting more money from every people’s demise.

When things are actually going wrong,it's the duty of a responsible citizen to oppose it.It's not unpatriotic. And in this case the government is bound to answer it.This is democracy.

I totally agree with "Indiescribe", it's normal that people will complain to the government if anything is going wrong with the nation because if a particular individual would not react on it so it's definitely clear that he/she is not involved with the nation and not concern with his/her nation.

I agree that it is to me a love for my country and every time I question an act of the government I do so on behalf of what this country is suppose to stand for - freedom - rights etc and the people it was designed to protect. And so I have to agree that it is a very patriotic move.

I believe that as citizens of our country it is our duty to sometimes question our government. We should all want whats best for everyone. If things seem to be going well for all then great, but if there are ways of improving the way our government is ran then we should make our voices heard about it.

there is no question of patriotisms in this. If you are questioning your government than it does not mean you are un patriotic.

In India we have a law called RTI, where you can actually ask government about various things it is your right.

Questioning those individuals who are in the position would mean the lamest thing to do. It's good to be involved with the political activity, chaos, and misunderstanding though, but this is not enough to ruin the trust one has for these people. In the first place, if you are a legal citizen, you always are a part of the force that push them up to reach that position. You once voted for them, or your parents did. The best thing to do instead of questioning them would be questioning what you could do for them if not for your country. Things might not be that big as you think they could be, but starting up with little things could mean BIG thing.

I believe in questioning EVERYTHING. That includes the government. Since at least in the United States, we are the ones who elect our leaders, we have a duty to our country to question the motives and means by which various agendas are pushed through.

If we only blindly follow then how will we be able to discern the truth?

There is a difference between questioning and bad mouthing. Some people simple assume the worst about everything and then spew about it. This is not constructive or patriotic.

you are right. It is good to question your government when you feel something is going wrong. However, this is sometimes just theory which can never be put into practice. For example let's consider Zimbabwe. President Mugabe has been in office for over three decades and yet he is not ready to leave his office. Poverty level in Zimbabwe is very high. People are been slaughtered like animals for no good reason. Those true patriots who try to question Mugabe always end up in hell and hence nobody is ready to question Mugabe and Robert Mugabe despite all his wicked deeds, still remains the President of Zimbabwe. Try to question Robert Mugabe and your head goes off.

I think these people are true patriots because they want to risk their life in order to do the right thing. Some countries never allowed any demonstration in their streets and they punish some liberal writers and poem writers. We should be able to question our own government.

I think especially in the US there is a strained silence that lately has been breaking. People felt like questioning the government would label them as unpatriotic by their peers, family, and neighbors, and for a long time it did.

But, with the crisis currently facing this country, the citizens are breaking away from that silence and demanding the changes that our Constitution entitles us to. And I myself couldn't be happier about it.

I have seen this in so many other countries as well, with much harsher punishments for speaking out against those that rule them. I think it's important....how else will the cycle ever be broken?

what is a government? it is an organization of people to serve other people who are larger in number and who elect those handling the positions because they voted them. so how could it possibly wrong of illogical to question some one who is working for you and on your resources. and a real patriot is one who thinks of his country before everything else. if something is not going right and it is related to his nation, it is rational to ask why and there is nothing unpatriotic about it....

I feel that they are patriotic and that's why they are asking questions. Otherwise who has the time today to ask any of them until he/she is affected by a problem adversely. And also anybody who votes the government in in a democracy has the right to ask questions, it's the governments duty to reply or do something.

That is what democracy is! You asked the government questions when they are not satisfied or want to know about the ruling. right to express oneself is democracy. And if you have stopped, then it is not democracy. I believe media like newspaper, television and radio are the most effective ways to ask questions and express your opinion. So, government should not control them.
