India faces the same problems as Africa. but unlike Africa, I think another major problem why India is so poor is due to outsourcing of India by foreign countries like the United States. outsourcing depletes the available little resources while adding very little or no benefit at all to the outsourced economy. There are many foreign companies in India yet India remains poor because the foreign companies in India are just outsourcing the country and not helping at all as they claim to be doing.

I agree with you. The American companies in India don't pay Indian workers well. As compared to the pay of the average workers in America, American companies use Indian workers for free. We do the same kind of work American workers do yet we work for nothing. The outsourcing must stop!!

Illiteracy and brain drain. Even though Indians cherish education, the most educated are the same people that get "fooled" easily by western advertisements. Indians have this mentality that unless you travel abroad you cannot make it in life so they sleep at embassy doors day and night dreaming about America and Europe instead of working hard to improve their lives in India

The population explosion in India is too much. Indians need to adopt family planning and cut back a little on procreation.

I agree with you. If the population size is extremely large as it is in the case of India, it puts so much pressure on every sector of the economy so no matter the amount of money coming in, the economy cannot grow. India needs to do something about the population explosion.

I agree. I just returned from a visit to India and you are right. The whole place is messed up. There is no space at all. So many people overcrowded on the streets with some hawking by the streets.

There are so many abused children in India today. Some of them are forced in hard labor. others are sold into servitude and those left home are forced into early marriages and prostitution.

These problems are not for India alone. Go to South America and you will find the same problems. Go to Africa and you will find the same problems. All developing countries face these problems although some places like India show worse forms of these problems than other places. Overpopulation for example is worse in India than in Africa and South America. Illiteracy and corruption are common to all.

Rich men who have money to take care of large families don't often give birth to more children. However, poor men who have nothing at all to feed themselves let alone large families enjoy giving birth to more children. Bringing a child into this world without what it takes to take care of the child is very bad. India's population explosion is the main reason why India is poor

According to the multidimensional poverty index of UNDP, India is the poorest country on earth far poorer than Africa in both intensity and in number. Ofcourse the number will be high because India has the second largest population in the world however the intensity or the level of poverty in India makes it the poorest country on earth.

A new multidimensional study shows there are more poor people in 8 Indian states than 26 poorest African nations combined. The multidimensional poverty index measures poverty from several different angles instead of just GPD.
The new measure, called the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI), was developed and applied by the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative with UNDP support and It will be featured in the forthcoming 20th anniversary edition of the UNDP Human Development Report. Africa is the poorest continent but India remains the poorest country in both intensity and in number which is very sad considering the size of India.

So far as the population remains that large, India will always have to deal with poverty and hunger. One major problem is that national funds and resources are concentrated in just certain areas whereas other areas get nothing because of the population size.

India needs to stand alone instead of leaning on America all the time. The more you follow America, the poorer you become because America doesn't care. America just exploits countries to better itself. If you want to prosper, forget about America. Just take a look at Japan.

I am very happy you mentioned China. China's outsourcing in Africa is getting out of hand. Atleast American companies provide jobs for some Indians in India. The IT companies for example which is good. Chinese companies in Africa are just devils. They use up all our resources and contribute nothing to the development of Africa. Chinese in Africa are not just cancerous cells. They are demons!

Just a few days ago I read an article on yahoo about Obama's trip to India. It was estimated that the trip costs about 200million dollars a day. I was wondering why America would waste this huge amount of money on just a trip to a country where about 200million people go to be hungry everyday.

In my country Ethiopia too we face the same problems. extreme poverty and hunger, poor education and corruption. However, in the case of India, overpopulation is a very big issue. If the country is poor and the population keeps exploded as it is in the case of India then there is little to no hope at all for the future which is why Africa is far better than India. Even the new UNDP multidimensional poverty index says that India is far poorer than Africa

You have a good point here. the cost of the trip is just crazy although the trip was very important not just to America but also to India and other Asian countries. According to skeptics however, Obama's trip did not yield the results expected and considering the huge cost, that trip was a big loss.

somebody asked this question somewhere online that why India is still a third world country and I replied India is a third world country because we don't have fourth world countries. Having a huge population of hungry mouths doesn't make a country a first world country. There may be American IT companies in India but they are just outsourcing the little available resources.

it is true Africa is the poorest continent but India as a country is far poorer than the poorest countries in Africa according to the new statistics and that tells you how poor people live in India. It is a shame the world doesn't care anymore. They like to talk and talk but no action. It is a shame.

the problem with India is that there is wealth in the country yet the wealth is concentrated in certain areas only while other areas get nothing at all. In other words there are very rich people in India and they keep on getting richer and richer because the economy of India favors the rich. On the other hand are the poor farmers in rural areas who get no support at all. I don't see a middle class in India because there is a clear cut. The rich are very rich and the poor are very poor there is no middle class and it is the middle class that pushes the economy ahead so if there is no middle class then it is a very big problem.

How America treated India is the same way China wants to treat Africa. When American companies such as the IT companies decided to go to India they said they were going to provide jobs for the people and to help raise the living standards in India for the better but as we can see now they went to India just to exploit the country. America went to India just to outsource. The same is what China is doing now in Africa. China said they are going to better Africa but the wikileaks report shows the vice versa. China is in Africa to exploit

I grew up in New Delhi in India and I know how life is like. Although New Delhi is a capital city with so many rich and powerful people, so many big companies and shops, life in New Delhi for some is worse than life in the villages in India. If you live in the village and you don't have money, you can farm to feed yourself and your family. However, there is no land to farm on in New Delhi, Calcutta, and other big cities so if you are poor you have no hope unless you beg for food and that is why you see so many beggars especially women and children begging on the streets of India. It is true our population is exploding but India has the resources to feed even a greater population. Our problem is poor leadership and corruption.

India has this huge hungry population to feed yet India spends billions of dollars sending people to the moon. Some things are more important than others. Some people go to bed hungry instead of spending money developing agriculture and other food producing sectors of the economy, India spends billions building rockets and sending people to the moon. It is just sad!

India should learn from Japan. See how quickly and successfully Japan recovered after the world war. Japan first developed its infrastructure for example the power and telecommunication infrastructure. India's infrastructure is very poor. India should allow private sectors to take part in developing its infrastructure instead of putting all the pressure on the shoulders of the poor and corrupt government. India's financial sector is controlled mostly by the Government. The Government dominates the financial sector which is very bad. The more you allow private sectors into the financial system the stronger and better it becomes. Take America for example. Most of the banks and big companies in America are owned by the private sector not the federal Government.

India is not the poorest country on earth but that doesn't mean India is rich. India is very poor if we are talking about the entire population. Mukesh Ambani is worth about 32 billion US dollars yet millions in his country India go to bed hungry every day. It is true Mukesh and others like Lakshmi Mittal and Anil Ambani are very rich but their richness does not have any impact on the living conditions of the poor people in India. The few who are rich are very rich but the majority who are poor are extremely poor.
