Post Privacy in today's life - Do we have enough privacy?

With the advances in technology, it has become easy for people to gather information and the use of internet has become such an important part of everyone's life that unknowingly, a lot of people also leave information about themselves online. Social network sites like facebook, friendster, myspace etc allow strangers to view other people's profile online easily. The popularity of blogs also cause people to reveal their daily lives online for strangers to read.

Besides the internet, security cameras may also be present all around your surroundings, watching over your movements.

So what do you think about privacy in today's life? Do we have enough privacy?

There is no privacy anymore. Phone calls, text messages, emails...these are all easily monitored and accessed. There are cameras all over the place, especially in areas like Britain. There are mandatory ID cards all over Europe, the US Patriot Act is far reaching, and you can find anything on anyone online, from addresses to criminal records to SS numbers.

The era of privacy and obscurity are over.

I definitely agree with you, privacy in today's society is extremely limited especially on the internet. Your personal information and identity could easily be stolen if the proper precautions are taken.

Sometimes I feel like we don't have any privacy at all. We are constantly next to people and you can see them staring at you. It is actually quite scary and when someone is really in my personal area I have to tell them off or walk away.

Yeah I don't feel we have enough privacy. With technology these days, it's very easy to rally up a big group and rebel, so it's only natural that the government would want to prevent that, and as a result, lessen our privacy (PATRIOT Act anyone?). It's hard to pinpoint how much privacy we need and how much we are willing to sacrifice in the name of national security.

privacy, these days depends on the type of family, the type of friend circle you have, the mental atmosphere you have around you
if one has a positive, healthy atmosphere around you and your parents also give you enough freedom to live(like giving enough pocket money, giving you your personal room to live), definitely you will have the privacy you want and its vice versa is also true

i think we hardly can assure our minds that the things we are doing online are safe from the hands of hackers. if there is a safe software a better hacker would crack it. even the government agencies often peep in to our life without our knowledge.

ya man you're true in this
there's lack of privacy especially due to the heavy use of internet nowadays
everyone is hooked to internet in one way or the other and thus he leaves some of his personal information which he would not leave otherwise. Thus he is caught every time he is online and has to spend the time he would have otherwise spent with his family

I am very much concern about this thing. I am personally not a too social person. So it make me worry when I think this type of privacy issues. Actually now a days internet has make everything open to all, even your private life. Also, governments are so concerned about security that they don't care about no ones privacy. I am not sure this situation will change soon or is there any other solution to it.

For me here in the United Kingdom it just seems as though our privacy is being diminished year upon year. If the government gets its way and we have ID cards introduced with bio data, finger prints, DNA and the like, then I would feel like a criminal even though I have done nothing to warrant having this data kept in government databases.

I don't think privacy exist at all in the modern world. According to me, nowadays, due to advancement in technology and use of internet, our private data is easily stolen and visible.

The days of privacy are over. proxies and anonymous IP's are also easily tracked anyway and with just finding IP of any computer, we can know whole of the user's details, where he lives, and everything (sorry to be more technical)

Privacy is denied to a person for a purpose. I support safety over privacy. As long as the information gathered on one person is not used to harm him it is of no significance. I personally have no problem if the government of my country curbs privacy for added safety.

I do believe the ongoing technology innovations that are created and put into place do cause a huge threat to privacy, yes.

However, you have to bare in mind that these advancements overall are here for the better, as they provide such a large amount

Well, I don't know about privacy around the world, but I do know that I myself have no privacy at home what so ever and it's driving me insane! I don't have the house to myself for 1 hour a week! I come from a four member family so it's really annoying when you have someone watching your every move. Especially now when my dad is retired. The man has nothing to do, but supervise me all day long when I come home.
