With the prevasiveness of globalisation, there have been vast improvement in our transport and communication, thus this increased the labour mobility between countries, causing more migrants to travel overseas in search of better future prospects.
As a Singaporean, foreigners have been a common sight in my country. i gladly welcome the foreigners for they bring more benefits than problems to my country. however, why do some still regard the foreigners as a threat? some plausible explanation could be that foreigners are may have the potential to displace local workers and thus causing a general sense of displeasure among the masses.
Moreover, some might argue that the influx of foreigners put a greater strain on their transport network, with more people rushing to get on a bus or train during the peak hours. All these could be the reason for their unhappiness. though these reasons are valid and just, we still need to take into account the many benefits accrued from foreigners.
Mulitnational corporations(MNCs) such as Apple, Exxon Mobil and Hitachi set up their businesses in our homeland, this encourages investors and other firms to invest in our country , this led to the creation of more jobs for the locals. so isnt this a good thing? moreover having foreigners can enrich the vibrancy of our cosmoplitian society.
How good can this be? they are able to share their roots and culture with us. By doing so, we are creating a friendlier world with more people having a smile on their face! in my opinion, the government should adopt a panoply of pro-immgration policy so as to intergrate the foreigners into local customs easily.
As citizens of a country, i feel we should discard our differences and welcome them warmly. Therefore i maintain, on the whole, that while there are problems arising from the influx of foreigners, i feel that the benefits gained far exceed the problems created.
