Default Measles in Africa - cost of measles vaccine in Africa

I read on the site that a measles vaccine costs about $1 yet everyday a child dies on average every 1 minute from it. Those are horrible numbers that break my heart and saddens me that it is allowed to happen.

IMHO, I believe when a place is in such dire need that it should be mandatory for every country to give something, whether it be food, money or vaccines. What do you think?

It's price may be low for us ,but it's also very high for them who don't have money to spend on food.Large numbers of people in different parts of the world are not getting food everyday. So they can't purchase medicines.

Even if the government in most countries are providing medicines freely to the poor, but they are unaware about it.That's the real problem.

I agree that these immunizations should be made available. I had measles as a child and I remember how miserable it was. It's so sad to know that so many children have and will continue to die from a disease that can be prevented.

1$ is a small sum for "developed" countries but for Africa it's quite a lot. In some countries a person earns just 10$ per month and it's not (as somebody mentioned) enough for food let alone any medicine. Plus you need doctors to make shots and some transportation and that's another problem.

The big point I meant to make was we have people there who are Doctors (I imagine mostly volunteers) and who have ways to receive medication within their means but my issue is why -lets say -does the US not send over vaccines. The American people have been taxed for reasons far less important than saving millions of children's (and adults) lives so why can't countries who have the ability to help in these ways NOT HELP?
