in china they are limited so why cant we? no offense, my parents have been refused houses so many times because women with more kids needed the houses more, which of course they do as they have about 10 kids.
wouldnt it be so much more efficient to limit, as then everyone would have equal opportunities that were not based on the offspring. |

I definitely disagree. There should not be a legal limit to how many children someone should be aloud to have. The problem with China’s one-child policy, for example, is that because most families follow the tradition that the eldest (or youngest?) son should care for his parents when they age, some people are abandoning or neglecting their daughters in order to try again to have a son. The social implications of this are obviously devastating. None of us have the right to monitor how many children we choose to have, but I do think that it is sad when people who are incapable or neglectful have children who consequently may grow up with serious mental and emotional issues.
We humans are imperfect and it is hard to manage issues such as overpopulation and resource scarcity. However, in many European countries, the opposite exists; many people in Sweden, Germany, and France (among others) are choosing not to have children or only having one and this is the reason why so many immigrants are being let into these European nations. This is the trend that we see in developed countries with parents who have higher educations. Now, the senior (65+) population is higher than ever (because of low birth rate and low mortality rate – better healthcare, disease prevention, etc.) and Europe faces the tremendous risk of having serious economic and social troubles in the future because there will be no young people to work or care for the elderly. This is also a problem, just as so many people think that having too many children is a problem. So what do we do about it? Well, unfortunately there is no easy way to resolve this, but I simply think that putting limits on it is just crazy. Maybe if populations were spread out more evenly (further increasing the opportunities for immigration to the developed world)? |

I wouldn't say that a license should be required, but I think strongly suggesting to would be parents that a limit of two is the standard is not being too offensive. The world population has doubled in the last 50 years and we will all surely feel the effects very soon if this trend isn't reversed. Let's be honest, it is apparant that there are way too many people on this earth as it is and if we don't face this problem head on without worrying about offending people, we are going to use up all our resources and then it won't matter anyway. I come from a family of 7, 5 kids and 2 parents. I am the baby of the family and even though it would have meant I wouldn't have been born according to this train of thought. I still am very adamant about limiting the # of kids per family. I myself have only 1 child and it is hard enough financially to keep up as it is right now. I also know that even if I could afford more children, I really wouldn't have more than 2 because I am afraid of the strain I am putting on our already seriously overpopulated earth. I just wish the media would stop glorifying teen pregnancy and families that have 10, 12, 18 kids. I think this is really ridiculous!! Please people stop and consider the earth for just a moment before having 6 kids. Geeze!!

Re: License To Have Children - Limit the number of children per family?
What is the matter with having to pass some sort of competency and income requirement before having kids? It's funny to hear people say that's unjust, what's more unjust passing some guidelines or child neglect and abuse. It's is statistically proven that when row vs wade was passed that crime rates for those children coming of age decreased. Unwanted children causes neglect and crime, I am not advocating abortion but some mandatory birth control for men and women I think is appropriate. I think it's funny that people get all up in arms about freedom and lack of rights, who are you kidding we are governed by crazy laws already. I can be a complete degenerate loser and have tens of kids put I cant smoke pot after working on my masters classes, how backward is that argument?

A License To Have Children? How about a license to have an accident with your car? How about a license to get a speeding ticket? How about a license to think after you graduate from school? Use your head for what it was made for, for pity sakes. What do you think a marriage license permits you to legally do? Take a shower together? Somewhere along the line I think you folks dropped your common sense and never found it.
