Knife Crime - anyone carrying a knife will be jailed

Knife crime seems to be a very hot topic at the moment, the UK government are looking to make it compulsory that anyone carrying a knife will be jailed.

I heard it was recently rejected which is insane, the amount that have died this year from gang/thug culture and people carrying knifes with "no" intent to use is crazy. If you carry a knife anything can happen easily in my opinion in the heat of the moment in a fight.

A lot of good innocent people have lost their lives to people getting drunk or on drugs getting out of hand and using a knife they so called wouldn't have used.

I'm one who will vote for an automatic sentence for holding a knife.

Knife crime is very dangerous and is very hard to stop. It is very easy to conceal a knife and so it is hard to point out someone that could be dangerous. So really you just have to be aware and be careful.

I think carrying a concealed knife under a certain length should not be illegal, it could be a person's only means of defense in a life or death situation. It has seemed to cause a lot of deaths and serious injuries but I for one wouldn't vote carrying a knife illegal.

This is a real headache for the law enforcement agencies. As such ,the nature of it makes it so difficult to control.
1. A knife is easily available
2. There's no license required for it :p
3. Nothing is left to identify a knife at the crime scene except some unsuspecting fingerprints.

But, jailing somebody for carrying a knife seems to be a silly way of stoping this. Yeha,right: a person doing so may be questioned if so needed

Well, it would be very unfortunate for someone carrying a knife for defense or protection to be arrested and jailed for a long time. There should be reasonable intent of the person bringing the knife that he would use it for deadly purposes aside from just defense. And its very hard to prove that. They might just probably fine those persons found to be bringing knives with them or some other lighter penalties probably since its a deadly weapon anyhow.

More laws are not going to solve anything. If they make knives illegal then people will switch to carrying some other type of weapon to defend themselves. We may all end up carrying baseball bats but people will still arm themselves.

Criminals do not care about breaking laws so laws like this only hurt people willing to obey them in the first place.

I think it has to be like that but I dont think they will catch many people
Maybe the people have to change themselves because today's people are really crazy. They don't think about the others and they don't even care about them

If they stop people from carrying knives altogether then it could mean a whole array of problems. For a start it will mean that the only armed people are the dangerous thugs, the law abiding disarmed society are now at the mercy of the thugs.

Secondly, what about the person who has something like a swiss army knife to open tins and stuff with? What about somebody who catches the occasional fish and uses a knife to kill the fish with? What about the person going on a picnic outing for the day who takes a knife to cut some bread with and his only intent was making a sandwich?

Most people aren't dangerous when armed, only a few people are. The knife isn't the danger, as the knife is an inanimate object, the thugs are the danger.

I think it should be legal to carry a knife, but illegal to use it as a weapon for any reason other than self defence. Anyone using it to attack somebody should face a long prison term.

The problem with the government is that it thinks that just by passing a few laws that it will solve problems. I think that the Labour Party is part of the problem because all of it's 'solutions' create more problems than they solve.

Yes the knife crimes are becoming more and more and due to this people are affraid of getting outdoor at night times. After all criminals can not recognized by his or her face.
