India And Pakistan - Neighbors and Enemies

The two neighbors who have not been cordial with each other since the time they were formed is really very frustrating.....to say the least.

Both the nation should strive to look beyond the past and try to focus on future opportunities.

Only if they can forget or resolve their disputes quickly, they can concentrate on expanding their economy really fast.

To cite just an example........In the absence of their anemosity, both the nation would not have to allocate so much money on defense which then can be used for the welfare of their own people.

Yes you are right. it is a waste of money on defense... But the government of the two countries is to blame.. i think the two governing bodies must come forward to take a step that will help maintain peace between the two countries and try to have good trading relations between the two countries..

The governments are mainly to blame for the issue not dyeing its natural death.

I have often seen that the Pakistani government when in crisis of its image in the eyes of their people, often resort to India bashing to uplift their image.

It is time politicians stop using this age-hold enmity for their own use and allow the people of the two country to mutually come close to each other....

You got a point here my friend. India spends like 15% of all its money on defense and Pakistan spends 40% of its money on defense. That is a whole lot of money. And most of it is going to the Americans as they are the ones who are providing arms for both India and Pakistan. So America must be pretty happy to see India and Pakistan staying this way.

with increasing instability in Indian Subcontinent, i think we should increase defense expenditure, rather than decreasing it. our Air Force and Navy needs major upgrade.

We have already seen what has happened in Kargil, even terrorists had Night vision.

missiles /radar technology are areas in which we are far behind developed world. Our MIGs keep on falling killing talented pilots, even now if we will not open our eyes, god save us.

We are also working on LCA (light combat aircraft), but i don't know how effective it will be

When both nations are so impoverished, I find it especially heartbreaking that they have both spent so much time and energy working against each other. Many workers in Pakistan are earning less than $50.00 per month, which even is not even enough to buy food for their families, yet the government can continue to invest so heavily in defense.

I was recently at the waggah border crossing in Lahore. It was an elaborately choreographed event. Both sides stomping around wildly and showing their power but all I could think of was the millions of powerless poor on both sides who are not being supported by their governments.
