government should pass a rule - our elders need good support

I have a general question for you. Don't you think government should pass a rule to make sure that our elders like grandparents get good support in their own houses, and they don't need to go to the elderly care institutes? My neighbors are not good towards their parents who are pretty old now. What can be done to help them?

This is one major problem with America. Americans believe in the nuclear family so much to the extent that, they ignore their own parents and grandparents. However, this is not the case in Africa. Africans believe in the extended family system that includes parents, grandparents, aunts, nephews, nieces, and all the other family members. Grandparents play major roles in the family. For example when the parents are out working, grandparents take care of their grandchildren and remember there is no better nanny than the grandma. It is a taboo to disrespect the elderly especially grandparents and hence everybody loves and cares for their grandparents no matter what.

Yea i have seen this with few families in india and there are few indian movies in which they have shown topics like this, this is really sad.. people who gave you birth and brought you into this world, you are being like jerks to them.. i would never do that to my parents or grandparents..

Where do you live? Most communities in the United States have agencies to assist the elderly. Depending on what type of assistance is required they may be able to get it free or at a discounted rate.

Are you serious? Do you really think this is the job for the government. With this new President we already have way too much government involvement. Who is going to pay for this?
