Fairly traded products and the workers wage
I have been thinking a great deal about how little workers in certain countries are paid for their services. Even by the standards of their countries, they do not receive a fair wage. Many products now display a seal that says "fairly traded" meaning that workers were paid a fair and reasonable wage for their services. Here are my questions.
1) Who regulates the use of these seals, how do we know that the goods are actually fairly traded.
2) Would you pay more to purchase an item in order to ensure that the worker who produced it was compensated with a living wage?
3) Do you think that any action should be taken to compel the market to pay third world workers a living wage?
