I am sure so many people know marriage is for better for worse. However, I am not sure if so many people know the part that says "TILL DEATH DO US APART". I was reading an article online yesterday and I came across a very shocking statistics. The world's divorce rates are at all time high and developed countries like the United States of America top the list with the highest divorce rates of all time.
According to the statistics, about 50% of all marriages in the United States end in divorce. About 65% percent of all marriages in Sweden end up in divorce.About 45% of all marriages in Canada and France end in divorce. About 30% in Israel, 20% in Greece, and about 15% in Italy. These statistics are for first marriages. In America for example, about 65 to 70% of all second marriages end in divorce and about 70 to 75% of all third marriages end in divorce and about 40 to 50% of divorcing couples mostly have children.
As compared to the divorce rates in developed countries, divorce rates in developing countries are far lower especially in Africa although the rates are far higher than they were about 10 years ago. In the olden days for example marriage was very expensive in Africa. You paid several cows and other things as bride price before you got a wife and no married man was ready to go through second marriage rites so divorce rates were at all time low and the "Till death do us apart" part worked very well in Africa. However in today's Africa those traditions are no more. Bride prices are very cheap and in most cases especially in the urban areas you don't pay any bride price at all. That is a major reason why divorce rates are rising in Africa.
I know economic issues play a major part in divorce rates in America and other developed countries but economic issues are not the only causes. Moral breakdown in today's society for example play a major part and it is worse in developed countries.
What do you think?
