Default Controlling HIV/AIDS - HIV/AIDS Prevention programs

The dreaded disease HIV/AIDS is now threatening the existence of the human beings in a big way. Many countries and social organizations are investing crores of money to control AIDS, but the success level is not good enough and the case is horrified in third world nations. I think international organizations should concentrate more on these countries and they should aware the people of these countries about this deadly disease.

This is a terrible disease and I fully expect it to become commonplace for people all over the world to contract it. Helping to make everyone aware of Aids and how it is spread should be available to all nations.

This is one of the popular dreaded diseases in my country. Most of the ones that have this kind of sickness are those who are selling their bodies. I’m not saying if you have this disease then you are selling your body.

this is a great thread.. malaria kills, tuberculosis is very disturbing, measles, whooping cough, diphtheria, cholera, etc are all dangerous diseases in Africa but none of these can be compared to the deadly HIV/AIDS.. children become orphans.. mothers become childless.. fathers leave their families and grandparents, their grand children.. HIV shows no mercy in Africa.. HIV leaves neither the branches nor the roots and nobody is safe in Africa.. poverty is on the rise and children are into prostitution.. teenagers fill the streets of Accra, lagos, Abuja, Kumasi, Darkar, Lome, etc.. in the dark looking for ways of feeding themselves in the light.. Neither the faithful wife nor the husband is safe in Africa.. wives are distributing while husbands are buying the virus in Africa.. cruel customs like the female genital mutilation are still going on especially in rural Africa and hence helping spread the diseases... HIV kills and I think it will be very wise to kill HIV/AIDS before it kills us ..

I never heard someone who has recovered from these diseases before so it would be wise to not have sex with those who have one.

I forgot to mention that it can be transferred by blood transfusion so be very picky on those who are donating bloods.

This is such a tragic disease. So many all over the world have suffered and lost loved ones due to it. Its especially sad for all the innocent babies who have been born with it and had their lives come to an abrupt halt because they were born to HIV positive mothers. I think so much of this country's money that is wasted on things like the entertainment industry should instead be used to try to find a cure for this deadly disease.

You're absolutely right.Child prostitution is alarming in Africa & it cummulatively develops the spreading of HIV.The condition there is uncontrollable. So special care is needed there.Unfortunately, world bodies are not discharging their responsibilities properly.

There are loads of efforts being made by International agencies for tackling AIDS issue..but the efforts seems to be not sufficient , more international co operation is needed for this.

Indeed. AIDS is a deadly and life threatening disease. I think there's still no cure for AIDS yet. As the saying goes "Prevention is better than cure", so since there's no cure available yet, we have to try to prevent it. I think bringing awareness to how AIDS are spread will help in lowering the amount of people infected with the disease.

Controlling AIDS is a very aspect of preventing mortality. I once happened to talk to one of my professors who was of the opinion that all people suffering from AIDS should be shifted to sanatoriums since they are at a high risk of get inflicted with diseases as they have a very low immunity. By saying this, he in no ways meant of any discrimination but this was for their own good. Of course a lot of expenditure is required for this. Well you must be wondering why he said like that but for this you just need to visit the HIV/AIDS wards and you will understand what these guys go through. They are usually co-infected with tuberculosis and mind you this form of tuberculosis is usually resistant to the conventional anti-TB drugs. It is a very sorry state since the majority of HIV/AIDS affected patients are from the developing countries.

I agree something has to be done, but if we have learned anything from other diseases (someone mentioned TB, which is a good example, as well as others like Malaria), it won't improve much, not in third world countries where it is needed the most.

The truth is, in well established, wealthy countries, HIV/AIDS is no longer an actual death sentence, but has become more of a chronic disease, like Diabetes. People can live 10, even 20 years, with treatment, and even women who have HIV can give birth to healthy babies if they themselves are being treated in pregnancy, the baby is given anti-viral medications at birth, and they are bottle fed.

But these resources don't extend to the poor, and the rich are often unwilling to help as much as they should. Look at TB..this disease was cured, what, 60 years ago? More? Look how many still die every day.

This is the need of the hour. As there is no cure for this deadly disease thus people need to be told about the hazards of this disease and how to prevent it from spreading. Use sterilized syringes always!!!. As this is an STD(sexually transmitted disease) thus people better use condoms. It's people who can control this and not any other thing

It is not as simple as just telling people aids is bad and condoms can only do so much. These people need to have children, the only way i can see is to find a cure and that is a long way off. More medicine for free would be a step.

in India, it is very important to make people, specially teenagers aware of this deadly disease-HIV Aids
because its negative effects can really be worst of worst for young people who nowadays are getting very desperate for sex
therefore one should not have unprotected sex before the age of 18

I feel i should raise this point . In proportion a lot of money is spent on AIDS awareness and less on the research and cure. Same is with cancer. There is a whole propaganda associated with supporting a cause. It is about the common man feeling good about himself by a philanthropic cause. While this notion is appreciated i also thing equal if not more money should be given to find a cure and for research.

The whole equation changed recently with the pope commenting on the use of abstinence rather than condoms for preventing HIV, which i believe is a totally wrong approach

The major factor why AIDS is such an endemic in Africa is because of lack of access to anti-retroviral treatment . Various action plans like TAC and SRV have also failed miserably

I think, parents need to take more time to explain to their kids about all the consequences of sex, instead of hoping they'll learn all about it in school.

HIV is truly a deadly transmissible disease that affect all ages. With the increasing number of HIV patients around the world, it would be much harder if we can't find ways to cure this disease 100%. Aside from that, people must know the importance of protected sex.

the spread of this deadly disease is due to the lack of awareness among the people. Africa has the highest number of HIV/AIDS affected ratio . this is due to the lack of education.

I think ratio, television can play a great roll one this matter,in the rural areas people don't know what is HIV all about, they doing unprotected relationship, the drugs, the blood donation, all these, they don't know how to take care of these things,if our government take some step about these things then I don't think we need other international helps,We have to just convey this message to the remote areas

Thumbs up Re: Controlling HIV/AIDS - HIV/AIDS Prevention programs

The only way for controlling HIV/AIDS is to have right knowledge regarding it and take precautions according to that. The couple should test for HIV before having any sexual relationship. Also, one must avoid using infected razors, needles, etc. Lets pray that our scientists who have been able to find cure for chicken pox (which was not controllable in the past) will also be able to find solution for this deadly AIDs disease.
