Child prostitution-A social problem

Social values are drowning rapidly day by day.Thats why social problems like child prostitution is knocking our society.I don't think this is an individual problem rather than it's a social problem.Children are not doing this nasty job happily.But they're forced to do this.Sometimes they accept it due to financial crisis. So what steps should be taken to abolish this issue ?

thanks very much master! this is a great topic! .. child prostitution is on the rise especially in Africa.. most students are dropping out of school in South Africa just to join the sex trade.. due to poverty and hunger in West Africa, most mothers are selling out their children just for food.. child trafficking is the day in Togo, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Gambia and few cases in Ghana and Mali..it is a very serious issue and I hope the international communities revisit this issue..

I think this is a horrible problem! Where have our morals gone? It is so sad that poverty has risen to such a level that people would stoop to such measures. Where do the people in these countries who can afford to "buy" these children get their money? I'm guessing that drug rings may play a big part in that answer.

I think that some step like letting the people know about this issue might help because as we get more knowledgeable on this issue we will be aware of this problem and thus help those who are in need of thy help.

This problem can be solved only when we all unite & raise our voice against it.All international organisations & NGOs should go hand in hand to erradicate child prostitution.

It's really unfortunate to find children in this nasty business.They need our helps & we must support them.

Gloria is right. am from Ghana and i have seen it with my naked eyes and heared it with my ears too. Africa is in real danger and the international communities and the other groups should revisit this issue and come to our aid. if not am sorry to say there is no hope for the future.

I would never say this isn't a social problem. But I will say that I need to know what ages are being classified as "children".

Most children that are involved on this kind of labor are in deep need of money. The parents of these children force them to do this kind of labor because the earnings are high.

This is quite an alarming issue. Children who are forced by poverty to sell their innocence and their young bodies to be able to survive is very depressing. I am a mother of two lovely children and I can't even begin to imagine the horrors these child prostitutes go through everyday.

IMO, we need to work together to eradicate poverty. Just how exactly, I don't know. This is such a widespread issue that can be bigger than all of us individually. But if we act together, I know there is still hope.

I think that stiffer punishments should be given to both the people running the rings and people using them. I would think that nothing less then life in prison without parole would be right.

I think who aren't adult will also come under children group.It always doesn't mean that age group of 1-5yrs or 7 yrs are children.Child prostitution involves the children of age nearly 10 yrs or more.

I was unaware of this problem until having watched a special report about it. It just sickens me to think that our youth could one day be caught up in this whole mess. Just getting the word out there will make a difference even if it is samll at first. I am all for teaching people how to avoid these situations rather than sit back and do nothing. I hope that all the people in the world can get together and make a stand for this.

You are right Brandbla8.. it really hurts to see children suffer this way. these are just innocent children forced into prostitution sometimes by their own parents due to poverty and hunger. I just pray that people will see the need to stop this barbaric act against children.

Poverty is a sickening excuse for this behavior. I think of so many other doors to walk through than to take such a life ruining dead end path.

Child prostitution is a very sensitive social problem which we are facing.Many small children are forced to sell their bodies for a living . These are henious acts of crime and the people responsible for it should be punished severely.

This is a great topic. You are right child prostitution is all about social values. Kids, teens and minors should stay in school. Children that does not have enough education will always have that option to be a prostitute regardless of what country he/she is at!

Social Welfare and the government should be proactive in this kind of social crimes. Child prostitution will not prosper if the government has LAWS that will put people behind bars committing this crime.

Surprisingly, a lot of countries aren't aware of this happening. It just doesn't make the media. Right now I'm living in the states and this is the first I've ever heard of this. One step to end this problem is to make it known on a worldwide level. If most people don't know that this problem even exists nothing will ever be done about it.

On a side note, how sad it is that the only way to survive is for you to sell your kids, or for your kids to sell themselves just to put bread on the table

sometimes issues such as this are almost unheard of in the western world because we consider them normal. Instead of using the right terms such as "child prostitutes", people in the western world prefer using words like "bad girl" and making it even fan to be a child prostitute. I heard it yesterday on Oprah where a guy forces his beautiful daughter into the sex industry so he can reap the benefits. When asked why? he replied.. "well.. it is work". The case in the third world country is quite different because these children are forced into prostitution because of poverty and may be illiteracy.

I am of the same view that it must be eradicated. This is because of the poor living conditions of the children and their parents. Some times, children run out of their homes because of poverty and get indulged in such activities. In my locality, teen age girls run out of house in order to try a chance in film industry but get spoiled entering prostitution as they do not get any chance.

child prostitution is prevalent and has widened not because of financial crisis of the poor as an easy way to find money but i think its even more serious than that because its vested in the lack of sense of social responsibility and humanity amongst the privileged who can stop this just by not supporting it. its in the hands of those who keep mum and who do not speak up even if they know that such a crime is ruining the roots and hope of societies that is children...... we must peep in to ourselves for that. is it really justified to put the responsibility on someone else's shoulders.

Child prostitution is the world's worst side. Children are naturally innocent, harmless to anybody. Why we can endure such ugly thing exist?. There should be more stringent laws to combat this crime and at the same time we need give more help to the poor.

I mean prostitution by adults is being accepted as it can be a much needed source of money but child prostitution makes no sense

Well most of the young girls doing this are either doing this because of lack of funds or because they are forced to do it ( sometimes even by their parents ... ). This year i watched on TV a 17 years old girl who was prostituting for $ because she wanted the perfect pram night when she graduate ... she didn't liked what she was doing ( of course ) but she liked the cash .. and she wasn't afraid to say it public infront of the tv ... it was kinda sad anyway
Imagine what some girls do, just to get nice clothes, shoes, etc for just one night !!!

This a major problem that the world is facing, specially poor and underdeveloped countries like India, Africa and so on. Strict law must be apply against them and victims should be supported by Government.
