I do think this is wonderful what the Gates' have been doing to help all of these charities. It's always nice to see when people as wealthy as they are, can still be willing to help those that are much more unfortunate.

Not only does he donate his money but I do believe that he helped convince a few very rich people to donate a lot of money as well.

I think Bill Gates is doing a great job.. having too much money does not make you a hero however, despite all the money he has, Bill Gates continues to be the same hard working person he was many years ago and i think that makes him a great hero.

I think that he tired with all the money he has and thus he is giving it away. I’m just hoping that I could get some of it since I used Microsoft products.

I understand where you are coming from but the point I was trying to make is; He not only donates his money but also gets others to do the same.

I’m impressed with the action of Bill Gates but I never considered him as a hero since a hero is someone who has given his life to his country. I don’t think that giving your riches would make you a hero.

Yes, admire him for that - as an activist; who helps in the eradication of poverty and AIDS in Africa. Thats it. No way that i can or anyone can admire him for his invention that suck your patience and empty your wallet. I go the linux way - and i admire Linus as a true programmer. But Bill gates is admirable for his personality and i appreciate all the charity he does. Hats off.

Quote:
Bill Gates died and went to get his afterlife assignment. St. Peter looked through his great book and said, "Well, you had an awful lot of money, and that's usually bad..." he paused and looked through a few more pages. "...on the other hand, you supported a lot of charitable works with you money, and that's good." He paused again, and spoke a few words in an ancient language into an old-fashioned telephone, listened, then put it down. "You really are an unusual case, sir," he said. "I've been instructed to show you heaven and hell and let you take your choice." So Bill Gates followed St. Peter into heaven, and he wasn't impressed with what he saw: Tall marble buildings, people with haloes sitting on clouds playing harps and praising the Deity. In the Moslem section there were beautiful houris, but Gates preferred blondes. In the fundamentalist Christain zone, everybody looked like they were afraid to be happy. So Bill Gates said, "I'd like to see hell now." Then St. Peter took Bill Gates to hell, and things were quite different that he expected. Instead of the smell of brimstone, there was a warm ocian breeze. They were on a vast beach where everybody was tan, toned and beautiful. Volleyball nets were everywhere, and horned imps were serving tall tropical drinks all around. In the distance, a luau fire was burning. Then, in the blink of an eye, he was back at St. Peter's podium at the entrance of heaven.

"What is your choice, Mr. Gates?" St. Peter asked. Without hesitating, he said, "I'll take hell." The floor vanished beneath him, and after a fall that seemed to last for months, he plunged into a lake of burning sulfur, where a twelve-foot tall demon was dunking lost souls in the flames with a pitchfork. "Wait!" Bill Gates screamed. "Where are all the volleyball players, the drinks, the beach parties?" The demon leaned down and grinned hideously. "Ahh...that was the beta version!"

It is good thing BILL GATES is donating money to poor country but it does not stop there. He alone can not save the world.
Maybe he realize that he cant bring his money in his after life. You can bring your money in you death bed but what is the use of that money!

We can look up to him and say his great but that wont help. Do volunteer work on your community, if you have chance. Let us all work together and stop poverty.

The thing I really admire about him, was he ignored all the criticism early in his wealth accumulation that he wasnt doing enough to support charities. Little did we know that once he accumulated his vast fortune, only then would he use the money where it would do some good. He is a good, humble guy.

I think that they are marvellous what them doors 'had made to help all these charities. He 's always nice to see when people as rich as they are, can still be lied out to help those which are much more unhappy.

You might be on to something Darthaneon. For every time Windows has crashed, for every time Word wouldn't save your document, and for every time IE just wouldn't connect you to the internet, we should be paid LOL

But on a serious note, I do admire Bill Gates for the amount of money that he has donated on research for cures, and aiding countries that are in poverty. Everyone should learn something from this. No matter if you're rich, poor, or in-between, give back to the world and society, whether its money, time, or just a smile

I admired Bill Gates for being such a good visionary. He is one of my role models of being a good businessman. He just showed the world that a college drop out can be successful.

I admired him more for sharing his wealth to the less fortunate people. Continue to be a good example to us, Bill Gates!

hahah..yeah, that does seem like a good idea doesn't it ? Charity should begin with us !
But he truly has been a modern role model, someone that I haven't actually seen more corporates follow in the steps of which is quite sad considering the amount of poverty and destitution in many parts of the world..

One of my mentors said that most of the rich people engage in a foundation for the reason of lessening the tax to be paid. But despite of this idea, I still appreciate how Bill Gates those people who are in need.

Huh. He is not doing charity for a 5% of his annual income.

Linus torvalds sitting on a dunk tank for raising funds for charity... That's what i call dedication. He's my idol. Not owning a corporate and just doing a namesake charity.

well, giving to charity is different from paying tithe. As for tithe, a faithful Christian is supposed to give %10 of their monthly or annual income to the church. As for charity, whatever your heart desires is acceptable. You don't expect Bill Gates to give all he has labored for all these years to charity. do you?

I don't think I admire him for doing a good deed, I may not even say that He is a Hero for donating millions on his foundation, there could be a reason behind this actions or a purpose maybe, anyway it was quiet normal to know that businessman and other politicians are doing the same.

Bill Gates has always been my childhood hero, not because he was the richest man or anything. Just a young college drop-out starting one of the best businesses in this world made me his fan. He is also responsible for starting a PC revolution, because of him we have computers at affordable rates in our houses or offices.

I don't call Bill Gates a great hero just because he has donated billions. Anyone who has as much money as him would most probably do the same thing. When you own too much money, you have bought everything you want, the next fun thing to do must be donating. If you donate what you don't want anymore it's normal. It is when you donate what you love that is really special.

Someone who has like one dollar and then donate fifty cent to someone who needs it is the real great hero.

Bill Gates has become THE champion donor. Such person is seen once in a life-time! He is the Leader of leaders, and a man who still is quite humble and caring after being the richest man on Earth for so long. Recently, he pledged about $ 30 billion to charity! Just think of it... A man who invented a "technology" when it seemed to be an impossible dream, but that same dream has now become easily affordable and indispensable to billions! The world would definitely stop working for quite a while if his invented product, Microsoft Windows, is taken away! An icon figure who has never shied away from his duty towards humanity! A true gentleman and one of the greatest business minds the world has ever seen!

Truly the man of the millennium! Simply Great!

I am no fan and a fierce credit of Microsoft's business techniques and the anti-competitive way to crush its opponents. But I admire the Bill and Melinda's Gates Foundation for doing good charity work by rigorously strict business rules such as performance indications and transparency. I think the way they run the charity foundation using business principles should be the way to go for all philanthropic enterprises.
