American Responsibility for Poverty
What’s something you think of when you hear the word ‘Africa?’ Many people think of poverty. While poverty doesn’t just occur in Africa, it is all over the world. Many people will try to argue that American’s shouldn’t help other countries because they were the ones that got themselves there. This isn’t completely true.
Poverty is a big issue in our country today. There are roughly 1.4 billion people or 21% of people worldwide living in poverty. This rate should not be that high. There are so many ways people all of the world can take responsibility and help the people in need. Some of the basic needs that people in poverty need are food, shelter, health care and education. These are all things that a person needs to function in this world.
People can try to argue that the poverty rate isn’t extremely high, but it is still affecting people all over the world. There are so many cons to poverty and not any pros. There is nothing good about poverty. You can’t say that the people in poverty won’t have far to fall when the economy goes even lower. There can be nothing worse than living in poverty.
What you think if poverty is your own opinion. Whether people should or shouldn’t help other people is up to you. It is true that you need to help yourself before you can help others. But there is a certain point where a person is being too selfish. For how well off some American’s are, we should take on some sort of responsibility to help other people in poverty.
