I have heard several stories like these in Africa but I never thought it was that common in other parts of the world especially in Asia. I read an article(the article was on yahoo news) about Pakistan yesterday that shocked me. New born babies are been burried alive and some thrown on refuse dumps around the world and many people don’t seem to care.
Somewhere around 2008 a girl from my village in Africa was arrested for throwing her baby away on a refuse dump and the girl later confessed that she did throw her baby away because she got pregnant while in high school and couldn’t get a husband and nobody to care for her.
She ran away from home to a far away village where she delivered the baby and because she couldn’t take care of the child, she wrapped the poor little baby in a piece of clothe and dumped the child on a refuse dump at a site where someone could find the baby.
Because of the rise in teenage pregnancy in Africa, this problem is becoming very common these days and in most cases they dump the kids near orphanages and children homes where they can be found.
I also watched a shocking video on youtube a few months ago about a baby rescued from a dug hole toilet in India and according to sources the mother of the child threw him into the dug hole toilet for a similar reason.
I’ve heard similar stories about this problem in America, in UK and in several other places around the world but I decided to post this after what I read yesterday about Pakistan. According to the article I read on yahoo news, this problem is becoming very common in Pakistan today whereby new born babies are being thrown away (especially babies and toddlers with some form of deformities) just like that by their own mothers
The article also did mention a shocking truth I did not know before. The article said in Pakistan adultery is punishable by law and because prostitution is on the rise in Pakistan and that most women in Pakistan become pregnant without husbands today, they throw away their babies on refuse dumps after delivery just to save themselves from the embarrassment and a possible death. I have also heard numerous stories of abandoned babies and toddlers in China, Malaysia, Mexico, in Brazil and other south American countries.
It is very sad to read some of these stories and sometimes it is very hard to believe that a mother can throw her baby away after carrying the baby in her womb for 9 good months. What do you think? Have you heard a similar story in your area?
