It is true there were several tribal conflicts in Africa in those days but what people forget is that, those tribal conflicts were not meant to divide the people but to bring the several tribes together as one people. For example, the Ashanti empire defeated so many tribes in west Africa and all the tribes the Ashanti empire defeated became part of the Ashanti Kingdom ruled by several chiefs but one Paramount King just like the United States of America with so many governors and mayors ruling states but one president ruling all states. The Ashanti empire for example was very powerful in those days. The Ashantis although they had no powerful guns and weapons of war, were able to defeat the white men several times. The white men had to bring in more troops and weapons of war from their homeland before they were able to defeat the Ashantis why because the Ashantis were united and very difficult to defeat. So those tribal conflicts in some way were very important because it brought the people together.
Right now there are about 55 different countries in Africa. The map of Africa I had in school doesn't work again because of the additional countries added. The border lines keep crossing each other on the map of Africa. On July 9 2011 South Sudan separated from North Sudan. All this while I thought Africa had just one Congo not knowing there are 2 Congos in Africa right now. The Democratic republic of Congo and the little Congo or Congo Brazzaville.
I knew all the countries in Africa but now it is getting so complicated because almost every few years, a new country is added. Africa keeps dividing while the world keeps uniting. Sometimes division is very necessary but sometimes it is very unnecessary. Israelis and Palestinians have demonstrated without any doubt that they cannot live together as one people. In such a situation, the only solution is separation. In a situation where you are being brutally treated as a second class citizen in your own land due to the color of your skin or your race then you have no choice than to separate because the issue of color and race have existed since the beginning of time and no level of peace agreements can resolve such issues.
I understand why South Sudan separated. In fact the separation of South Sudan from North Sudan was very important if you consider Darfur and the brutal killings of innocent people. The Arabs in North Sudan consider the Black Africans in South Sudan as inferior due to the color of their skin and this encouraged the brutal killings we saw happen in Darfur. So it was very important for South Sudan to separate from North Sudan. However, some separations are not that necessary in my opinion. Eritrea and Ethiopia for example are one people with the same color, same culture, same everything but they separated because of tribal conflicts which isn't that necessary in my opinion. I don't see any reason why Congo Brazzaville should separate from the main Congo.
Some of these separations were not that necessary and could be avoided. What do you think?
