Darfur is showing the total failure of the 21st century international community in protecting people from genocide. An America who is bogged down with the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq has its hands tied to do any thing proactive. Chinese and the Russians are siding with the Sudanese government to protect their vested interests, namely oil.

There are several Darfur videos on Youtube and I have watched a couple of them. This is no joke. There is a real genocide going on in Sudan, Darfur and the saddest part of the story is that, nobody is ready to help. These scary pictures you see here were not "photoshoped" but real pictures from Darfur. The UN is given up and America is not ready to help because there is no oil in Darfur.

I'm going to be honest here and it is sad, but why would we help? The UN has already declared to pull all connections to Africa because there is nothing in Africa but dying people. Of course it is inhumane but every country has their own problems and while people in America are too busy worrying about what is happening other countries have you ever stopped to look at your own country?
I lived in a "rough" neighborhood and recently visited and in order to join a gang now you have to kill an innocent person. How about instead of shoving our noses in other countries messes we take care of our mess first. America has so many problems right now that people don't even know that we are in a state of emergency. Of course it is sad that people in darfur are dying, but the government is the one killing them off so what exactly can the UN do besides try strike a negotiation with a government that obviously doesn't care about their own people. So I think before anyone cries about other countries we should take care of our own first. |

Iran and Afghanistan have similar problems.. When it comes to Africa, there is nothing but "poverty". So do you expect the UN to risk its troops over Africa? No. Do you expect the United States to help? No. The only thing we Africans can do for themselves is to think right and act right because nobody can think for us and nobody will act on our behalf. Africa is a blessed continent and if we as Africans will begin to think and act right, there is nothing we cannot do. |

I'm happy that at least now people are beginning to see what is going on in Sudan. At first we all thought this was one of their numerous tribal wars that end in a day or two but now people are beginning to realize the fact that Darfur is a different case. What is going on in Darfur right now is more than just a holocaust. It is just unimaginable. Could you belief that some of the rebels use human skull to drink their miserable beer? That's exactly what is going on in Sudan. Yesterday in a speech, President Bushes urged the United States and the UN peace keeping force to do something about Darfur which i think is a good start and I hope the president elect Barack Obama will also take the Darfur crisis into consideration.

it is very sad indeed that people cannot see reason. you are poor yet you have enough to buy weapons of mass destruction. Sudan is very poor and if the government of Sudan is not involved then where do the criminals get those weapons from?

This is a very shocking bit of news i have got to know here if it is true. I don't know why is this happening. Nobody has the right to do this as it is like taking away the fundamental right to live on this earth. How can janjaweeds do that and no one's stopping them. This act of insanity is another proof of the extreme tribalism/racism that exists in society today

I agree that darfur is in dire straits, and i agree that America is stretched thin in countries like Afghanistan and Iraq fighting the nonexistent war on terror. But really there is no way to justify what happens when countries are taking the so called "dark side" to help themselves. I really don't see why we "help countries that don't want or need it but wont lift a finger to help a country that truly needs it is absurd and slightly ironic.

You are all right but one thing you should remember is the fact that Uganda or Darfur is not fighting another country. Uganda is not being oppressed by another country or state. Ugandans are the ones oppressing themselves. Ugandans are the ones killing their fellow Ugandans. Ugandans are the same people causing the attrocities in Darfur. Nobody can help you if you choose not to help yourself. The government of Uganda and hence the President is the one supplying the criminals with arms. Just recently in the news, the Ugandan government stopped the UN peacekeeping convoy in Darfur which doesn't make sense at all. If you are not involved or not the one causing the problem then why would you halt the UN from helping your fellow human beings in need? There is little America can do here.

It is not as if the world is ignoring Africa. Everybody loves Africa in one way or the other. For example, you feel sorry for the poor kid living in extreme poverty. That is love. You feel sorry for someone in need. The problem here is Africans themselves. Most African countries are not ready to be helped. Do you expect to see foreign investors in Darfur? No. Africans are the same people harming themselves and there is little the world could do to stop that.

It is quite disturbing that after all these years of killing and suffering, the people of Sudan are not tired. You continue to kill your fellow human beings and expect someone else to come to your aid. The UN has done its best. America has given all she can. I think it is time for the Sudanese and the other African people to come together and decide for themselves. The so called militias doing the killings in Darfur are not from outside the country. They are also Sudanese and they were born in Sudan. I think it is just sad that some people cannot just see reason. Some people have the brain but they don't have the mind. Some people don't want to use reason at all. They just waste their precious time and energy not working to better themselves but rather working to worsen the already bad conditions others find themselves in. this is just too sad.

The conflict taking place in Darfur has many interwoven causes.
While rooted in structural inequality between the center of the country around the Nile and the "peripheral" areas such as Darfur, tension were exacerbated in the last two decades of the twentieth century by a combination of environmental calamity, political opportunism and regional politics. |

It seems like everybody has forgotten about Darfur these days because of the economic crisis. People are more concerned about the economic crisis and there is no time these days to talk about Darfur and co eventhough the trouble continues in Darfur. We are in hard times and it is good to do what is right at the right time. How I wish those savages in Darfur who are causing these attrocities could see reason.

The Darfur genocide has killed more than 400,000 civilians and displaced 2.5 million people from their homes. As new aid agencies work to eliminate remaining aid gaps in Darfur, the Sudanese government and JEM rebels continue to fight in North Darfur.
What is Barack Obama doing about this? Is Obama ignoring Darfur? |

I agree with everyone that has posted something on this wall. I have just recently watched a movie/ documentary on Sudan and I was appalled of what is going on and what had happen in Africa. I really thought that we were over the whole idea of genocide in this world. I guess if we can't profit from them then we don't care as any country would say, other wards we would have done something for the Sudanese already! Now I believe a freedom of religion and so on, but when did it become a freedom of killing people for not believing in what the government wants the people to think, feel, or even have faith. Now don't quote me on this cause I have not seen CNN, but any channel I have not seen anything of what's going on in Africa. What is wrong with our country that we can't help other when in need. Anyways I done talking about this I need to take a time out.
