Smile Vegetarianism and non-vegetarianism which one is more beneficial?

Vegetarianism is not eating meat and sometimes not eating even meat products. Non-vegetarians enjoy meat and meat products and hence get enough of animal proteins for good developmental processes in the body. Non-vegetarians on the other hand do not suffer from heart attacks and even if they do, it is very rare. According to reports, Seventh Day Adventists who are mostly vegetarians live longer than normal people. If so then Which of these two is more beneficial? Vegetarianism or non-vegetarianism.

I know a few vegetarians and they are perfectly healthy. I think it is just a matter of preference!

I'm changing a vegetarian possibly even vegan after the new year is done with.

Meat is a lot of the reason that i have chronic health issues all stemming from poor digestion. Meat is quite hard to digest and if not eliminated and broken down properly can sit to putrefy which then causes disease and a lot of symptoms.

To rectify this i'm going to need a colonic hydrotherapy session.

I like a veggie diet anyway with having to use more vegetables to make up the recipes their generally healthier anyway.

vegetarianism has its own benefits and non vegetarianism has its own and one common benefit of both of them being it keeps our body fit and keeps us healthy. negative side of eating non veg being we become more prone to diseases but if we see, there is hardly any negative aspect of eating veg food
so obviously vegetarianism is better than non vegetarianism

Going veggy is more beneficial as the veggy food digests easily. It is very important to digest food than to keep eating good food.
Non veggy items if taken in roasted form are better but that's not usually the case. They are usually taken fried and that's what is harmful about them.

you can get everything you need from a veggie diet, you just need to have a range of foods with the right things in them. I used to be a veggie but was very picky with my food so i was ill a lot. As long as your careful it makes little difference.

I support non - vegetarianism very strongly. The amount of protein one gets from non - veg is hard to find in vegetarian food.
However red meat, bacon should be avoided. White meats should be encouraged.

Being a vegetarian is too expensive as far as I'm concerned, or at least with the prices the way they are where I live. But, I just guess everyone is different, right ?

Being a vegetarian myself, I think that if your stomach gets filled by eating vegetables and fruits then why do people go for non-veg foods. Every one has a right to live, even chickens and fishes do have. I am strictly against the non-veg eaters. And Veg eating is benefetial as well.

I believe vegetarianism is more beneficial because you only eat vegetables and you also get protein from non-meat products. Many health professionals will agree to this kind of diet because this avoid red meats that are not so good for health as well as to avoid too much sweet foods for diabetics.

I once tried being a vegetarian... lasted about two weeks. I just kept getting hungry all the time, but I think that's down to me having a fast metabolism and therefore digesting food quite quickly anyway. Also I ended up eating loads and loads of cheese, and when I say loads, I mean I could get through 1kg in 3 days. All in all, vegetarianism is not for me. That said, I do know some other people who are vegetarians, one is because she just doesn't like meat, and another is because she believes that it is morally wrong to eat animals. Both of these vegetarians will eat cheese, eggs and drink milk.

On veganism, I'd have to say that I don't believe it's healthy. While a vegetarian gets enough animal protein from eggs and dairy products and can therefore be considered to be having a healthy diet, a vegan gets none and that can lead to some serious health problems. The problem is that there are certain amino acids which the body cannot make, they have to be consumed... some of which only come from animal products.

I don't think that eating meat causes health problems in itself, but it might be the case that eating way too much meat might cause health problems. Just like a glass of wine won't hurt you but a massive binge drinking habit will. It's all a case of moderation.

Going vegetarian is the better way but it is very expensive to go vegetarian especially in these hard times. I was a vegetarian for about two years but I couldn't continue any longer so I stopped. You need to be looking for other protein sources all the time and these sources are sometimes very expensive. Strict vegetarians also need to take some pills which isn't cheap.

There is a surprising amount of misinformation in this thread. I'll just mention this part now.

It is the vegetarians who have lower blood pressure and better heart health, not the meat eaters. I think you meant to say that. Using the euphemism, 'not-vegetarian' for meat eaters probably led to the 2 getting mixed up. They both sound nearly alike then.

And why use the euphemism anyway? Meat eater just doesn't sound like a nice thing to call someone.

Also I have no idea why anyone can think vegetarian is more expensive. I'm one of the cheaper people on earth. I like to buy a 40 pound bag of rice at a time. I've never timed how long it lasts, but it is several months. It only cost $17 the first time I did it, and the price has been bouncing around since, but was $24 last time.

How long would $24 worth of beef or chicken last you?

I suppose it could get a bit expensive if you pick up the trendy stuff at the health food stores. That's not my style. If you keep it simple, it is super cheap.

I'm switching over from rice and beans, to wheat, barley, and flax. (And beans.) I've been organizing a lot of info about it lately. Wheat is a surprise. People who cook it like it. Here is a quote from a site with some nice info about it, and a link to the site.

"Nutritional bang for the buck, wheat is the cheapest food available in North America. Just $90 of wheat at 2001 prices will provide the energy needs, all the protein requirements and many of the vitamins and minerals an adult needs for a whole year to stay healthy. No other food can even come close to this claim for such a low price. Wheat is the most versatile whole food grown in North America and is found in a high percentage of today's prepared dishes."

That is from usaemergencysupply dot com (couldn't post the link)

It's nice to see a topic I'm interested in. I registered and posted here before but something happened and I could not log back in. Tried about 30 times. Nothing worked, and no error messages, so I had to sign up again.

And a nice bit of related news. Germany's strongest man is a vegetarian. Can't post a link yet, but if you paste this in the address bar, that should get you to the story and photos.

Health-wise it would be more beneficial to live longer than NORMAL people.
However if I would like to be a NORMAL person I would eat as a Normal person.
