I think quitting from smoking abruptly is not good. Instead, weaning off should be done. For instance, if you can consume 1 pack a day, maybe decrease it to 3/4 pack for 2-3 days. Then half pack for the next 3-4 days and so on. In this way, your body will get rid of the nicotine little by little to avoid experiencing withdrawal symptoms.

Quiting smoking is a process. It is not something you feel one day and quit smoking just all of the sudden.
You need to know how addictive you are in smoking. You do know that smoking kills but how scared you are of dieing because of smoking. If you are ain't afraid to die because of smoking you'll never be able to quit. |

I am addressed with this issue in my family. Smoking is the most gripping addiction I have ever seen.
I do believe that there are sucesses with quitting cold turkey or weaning, however, the SMOKER has to REALLY want to quit and some important lifestyle changes need to be made. Look at your habit. Think about what prompts you to smoke. Make changes to your behavior to help you avoid those situations. Be prepared ahead of time with an alternative to smoking. chewing gum drinking water giving up the coffee in the morning .. |

You just need to make up your mind. I quitted smoking for two years and smoked again when I got bored at work. Trying different ways are just excuses IMHO, once you resolved that you would never smoke again, just stick to your decision and refuse to smoke again and you have made it.

It's all about your determination and how serious you are about your life and health. Sure, everyone knows smoking is bad. But they just keep smoking anyway because they have no will to quit. Most people quit when they get diseases. Don't wait that long.

I'm a smoker and i don't have any idea how to stop it but lots of friends told me some ways to stop it.. Like making yourself away from the city.. in short, get a vacation where cigarettes are far away.. Or get something to be busy with.. Too busy that you can't think of taking a stick of cigarettes.. But my cousin told me that the best effective way is to think of this.. "Every stick you pop, it will cause 11 minutes of your life here in the world." In short, get afraid of smoking so that you won't come back on it again

Smoking addiction is abusing your body and health. Smoking always attacks the nervous system first and then begins its ill-effects on the body. It always does that, first attacks the nervous system and then become an addiction.
Like any addiction, a timely prevention is the best cure. If the addiction has become overbearing then taking medical help is the answer. But for stopping smoking, and remaining absolutely away from it for life, you will need strong determination to absolutely stop it first. There is nothing like a slow and steady process of getting away from any addiction. It has to be stopped immediately, full stop. Even for any other addiction, the medical answer is to stop the addiction immediately. The doctors don't give the addictive materials to their patients, even in low-doses, and stop the craving gradually. They are blunt... they stop the harmful materials first. If the patient does not believe in the medical process, then they are asked to find the remedy elsewhere. But, the patient always listens to the doctors because they are paying them to get well. When stopping smoking on our own, we are not paying or losing money, so we do not feel the need to obey our restrictions. So, we get back to smoking and say to ourselves, "Hey, what the heck... I will stop it someday... It will be easy!... ". But that way we never stop. So, the need for the strongest determination. Use anything to "provoke" you to stop it IMMEDIATELY. It's same like stopping an argument effectively, turn away from it completely, and stay strongly determined. Smoking really kills the person, but before killing it really hurts... |

Asking how to quit smoking is like asking how to stop destroying yourself. First convince yourself that smoking can kill you. One day you will get old, your body won't be as strong anymore, and that's when you will begin to experience the negative effects of smoking cigarettes. When you can feel tempted to smoke, get sweets instead. This will help to take your mind off cigarettes. Good luck.

Its really matter of a will in quitting smoking.
If one's heart is not really into quitting the habit, then he would not be able to get over it. I have a friend who wanted to quit smoking before and he was made to choose between quitting smoking and breaking up with someone he loves. He chose the latter, it was a really trying time for him but he actually got over it, that was three years ago until now he has not touched a single stick. So, I believed it's really a matter of will. |

I say just keep quitting. I know that sounds stupid, but I quit dozens of times, and three of those times were serious. On the third try, it stuck. This might not work for everyone, but I had been smoking since I was 10 years old, and it had been a decade. And now I am not, so there has to be something to it.

To quit smoking....one needs to have a very strong will power.
Person really serious of quitting this act, first of all should read a lot of material highlighting its bad effect on your health as well as that of your immediate loved ones. Having got such information drilled firmly in your head....set yourself out on a mission with very strong grit and determination...and you would surely make it. A chain smoker would really find it hard..and he will have to reduce the intake slowly and steadily before discarding it fully. Regards, Walker |

Quitting to smoke cold turkey can put you into withdrawals real quick. I had to completely wing myself off them little by little as I tried to quit all at once and it made me deathly sick. So I had to slowly quit.
Some people can do it that way but I found for me it just didn't work. Some people have tried the Hypnosis factor too and I've heard of great success with that option as well. I think it just depends on your body and how long you've been smoking etc. |

My husband was a smoker before, he started young also. He was hooked on cigarettes when he was 13 or 14 years old because of peer pressure. Ever since then until we meet meet, since I am not a smoker and couldn't tolerate the stink I told him we need to quit the relationship since if we continue it would still be shaky because of our differences regarding smoking. I managed to win over him in the end, and he quit smoking. But after a month or two, he relapsed and I smelled tobacco again on him. That almost ended our story. I am so happy that since that last confrontation, he hasn't touched or smoked a cigarette ever.
