Default Sleep talking disorder - Is normal to talk in your sleep?

My younger brother talks in his sleep all the time. My mother considers it normal. She says I used to talk in my sleep too and that he will stop as he gets older. It is very scary at times. He wakes me up almost every single night. We all talk in our sleep at one point all the other but his case is quite different. He talks almost every single night and he talks as if it is daytime. He talks so loud in his sleep that if you don't know that is how he is like, you may think something awful is happening to him. Is it OK to talk in your sleep? Is sleep talking a sleep disorder? How can one avoid talking in his or her sleep?

I think its completely normal to talk in your sleep, unless you talk so loudly that you wake yourself up or it disturbs your sleep in some other way. I don't think that sleep talking is a sleep disorder, unless it keeps you up at night. I know that sleep talking runs in the family, my sister-in-laws both talked in their sleep & now my nephews & my daughter talk in their sleep. I'm not worried about it, because like your mom said about your brother, they will grow out of it eventually.

i don't think its bad,as long as it doesn't have any harmful effects.if my son has had an excessively active day,he is sure to talk in his sleep recounting everything that has happened the whole day.its really funny.at times he gets up to display and goes off to sleep.he is just hyperactive.
