If you can afford to keep it, do so. The one year I dropped it from my insurance because I didn't use it for anything other than a cleaning up until that point, was the year I could have really used it.
That year I needed to have four impacted wisdom teeth removed and then had to wait for other stuff until I got my dental coverage back. It cost so much out of pocket that I was on a payment plan for a good two years. If i had kept my insurance for another three months I would have had to pay about $200, which was nothing compared to what I did pay.
Plus, you never know when something is going to happen, even an accident so it is better to be covered than sorry.
