Question What is all involved in Going Green? - Importance of going green

I would like to hear from some of you who have decided to "go green." I am very interested in this, but do not know everything that I need to do. I already recycle, use energy saving light in my home, and try to cut back on water usage. What are some other things I could be doing as well?

I think I've not adopted this policy completely in my life till now.I've taken some steps just like you,in addition I stressed on planting trees & protested against deforestation. I'm aware about it & know how important this is for our future world.I always try to convince others about it.

Post Everyday Go Green Lifestyle Changes

Lower the chemical cleaners you use everyday in your home to all natural cleaners, including laundry detergents. People at first think that all natural cleaners cost more, but in reality, they cost much less over the long run saving you money. This is because they can be used on a larger variety of surfaces. I have a concentrated organic cleaner that has been available for about 30 years now. What I love about it is how many different jobs it takes care of. Here are some of my thoughts on natural cleaner issues.

1. I had to find my winter heavy duty gloves quickly, but they were in a very cold room for several months and were very muddy. I did not have much time but had to use them. I took the organic cleaner already in a spray bottle, sprayed the surface of the gloves to clean off the dried mud from months earlier. It came right off and I had the gloves ready in a couple short minutes, and they were not wet. This organic cleaner is great for all normal household surfaces, vehicle, or even material surfaces. I like the idea of not worrying about ruining surfaces by using the wrong chemical on them. I don't even think about that now.

2. Many times you have to worry about whether a cleaner will harm a surface or material. Today you can research the material data sheets of the chemicals in the organic cleaner online making it easy to learn about these chemicals and how safe they are to breathe or use on what surfaces. Check out products for yourself on how safe they really are for your home.

3. Realize that whatever chemicals you dispose of down the drain have to be filtered back out at the water company. Then after they filter those chemicals out of the water they send it back up through your faucet. The less harmful chemicals deposited into the system, the less filtering necessary. If many people did this our overall public water will be improved over time.

Thinking how will you be involved in all these Environmental matters when you sit back and browse? Never think only of saving your bandwidth. Save the nature for the future. Here are a few tips to go green:

Turn off light when unnecessary
You may be annoyed to see this again. See, this simple tip not only saves a lot of energy - but also your wallet from being robbed. Within a couple of months, you will normally get adapted to it.

Switch off PC immediately after use
Try to avoid standby modes unless you quit for a while. You know PC sucks a lot of energy - so why don't you save your work and shut it down for a while.

Look before you Print
Need to print a draft? Wait. Have a second thought. Bundles of papers are tree pulps - never forget that. So never print a sheet unless its too official or it's absolutely necessary. Make sure that you load the sheets right, and placing it too far from the deck can waste lot of ink and paper, which will harm both environment and your wallet.

Go CFL
CFL's are energy saving lamps which are saves lots of money and energy. If you think it's less bright, go for brighter fluorescent tube lights. It is effective with the shadow issues as well.

Value Quality over Price
Never buy too cheap electronic gadgets, they really sucks. Look for the Energy star energy efficient products. They might be a touch expensive, but remember that every product delivers for what you pay.

Go green techies. Go green for yourself. Go green for future.

You can also drive your vehicles less and try car pooling when you can. See what you can do at work as well. It doesn't take any time at all to setup a coke can recycle bin.

The problem with this is getting everyone to use it and also finding the time and people to maintain it. If you can get the rest of the office to buy into the idea then I can see this working out good.

Going green is a lifestyle. It is Lifestyle that is not flashy. Everything should stay simple as it is.

You do cost effective things. Like bringing your own cloth bag on a grocery store. That manner reduces the use of plastic bags. Don't use your PC if it is not necessary. Don't drive around town for nothing. Walk instead or ride a bicycle instead of running your car in short distance maybe in getting a sugar at the grocery. Just an example.

Live a simple green life.

One small thing which everyone of us can do is to use a water filter to purify tap water instead of buying bottled water. Not only is bottled water expensive, but it generates large amounts of container waste.
Bring a reusable water bottle, preferably aluminum rather than plastic, with you when traveling or at work. All these things can contribute in going green.

What you can also do is cut down the consumption of non vegetarian meal. That way, you can go-green. Another way is to start using a bicycle for small distances instead of an automobile. One should also not use cosmetic products that are made up from animal products. Some of these are also tested on animals!

Going Green means taking an active stand to help the environment and your community. In the workplace, at home, means turning the lights off and recycling, thinking about the amount you use your car and providing alternatives. Going Green means that you are dedicated and actually want to contribute to saving what we have on earth.

What I do :

Recycle,
Save power and turn off lights
Use public transport

Anyone can do this. And it saves a lot.

3 R's.
Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

Reduce
Reduce energy consumption by turning off electricity when they are not in use, Turn off the main power switch every time when you don't need them as this can help to save electricity too.

Reuse
Reuse things whenever possible such as passing down your old clothes to your siblings or donating them to charity organisation so that people who need it can use it. Besides that, you can also donate your old but working electronics goods to charity.

Recycle
Make use of recycling bins and send those products that can be recycled to recycling agencies so that those materials can be put to good use to make new products.

Reduce the use of pesticides and weed killers in your land. Avoid using plastic as much as possible. I know it is impossible to avoid all plastics. But try to reduce as much as possible. Avoid sound pollution by avoiding the usage of your car horn as much as possible. Keep your car in best condition as far as emissions are concerned.

I agree with bluesnow with the 3R's. And if you have a leaking faucet, please also have it checked immediately, this way we could also conserve water. Try to plant some trees around your house, it could be for aesthetic purposes only, at least, it'll help ease the carbon being emitted in the environment, since plants take in the carbon and breath out good ole oxygen for us. Also try refraining from using perfumes and colognes, because it also helps in depleting our ozone layer, which is protecting us from the harmful rays of the sun.

Going green has also become very trendy. We need to exercise caution when assessing the "greenness" of a product or activity. Remember that just because an item comes in "green" packaging does not mean that it is better for the environment. Often the "green" packaging still requires recycling on the part of the consumer..and remember there is more waste than just the packaging, there is also all of the fuel that was wasted in order to bring the product to you.. you will ALWAYS be greener if you buy products locally. Local products usually have less packaging and require less fuel to transport them.

you can save cutting of trees and deforestation by limiting the sale of paper. i think this is commonly said to everyone of us from our teachers and elders that each one of us on this earth should atleast plant one tree in his lifetime. i think its a good practice.

you're getting it quite right. you could do the following:
1. Use CNG ,LPG kits in your car.
2. Stop water wastage around you and in your house.
3. Stop using polythene bags.
4. Actively participate in recycling workshops and voluntarily do the job.
5. save electricity.

I don't own a car, tend to walk most places and use public transport when go to work, i find it a whole lot more relaxing to walk a while before work. Recycling is always important, as well as finding way to recycle the big things like furniture. rather than throwing it away there are plenty of charities that help furnish homes and really need extra help.

Well, I don't have a car, usually use the public transports, try to use less power which don't apply to my computer, its running almost 24 hour a day. However going green is a good slogan to follow. Its inspiring lots of people to follow this theme. Specially I see large organizations are giving extra attention to prove themselves green which is good. I hope one day together we can have a greener and better world.

The term 'Going Green' refers to things such as carpooling, biking, walking, using less emissions, even using a water barrel and collecting rain, then watering your garden with that, and saving water. Factories, turning off lights when not using them same with other devices or machines that use electricity, recycle everything that can be recycled. Don't buy things that take a long time to disintegrate. Eg - Diapers. Of course, diapers are needed always, but try and not use them, and instead use a homemade diaper of paper, or, teach the child at a young age.

The concept of going green means living in a peaceful and healthy blend with nature. Its our duty to protect our environment and we should do that by living in a manner which is natural.Their are many things we can do for living green.Saving energy is the first priority to me .Switching off the home appliances when not in use , depending more on renewable source of engy etc comes under that. Then I give second priority for stopping the use of things which will lead to the destruction of balance in nature.Limiting to the usage of plastic materials is an example. Also we should depend more on re usable materials and recycle the used materials.Plant more trees and protect the natural resources like rivers and try to love the environment we belongs to
