The world’s urban areas have exploded in size
Over the past 40-60 years the world’s urban areas have exploded in size. This means that much more of the earth’s surface is now covered with asphalt, masonry and concrete. At the same time land-based weather data may show a warming trend. But 40-60 years ago most land-based weather monitoring stations were located in rural areas- areas that have been engulfed by the asphalt, masonry and concrete of urban sprawl.
So how do we know that the temperature data that supposedly indicate global warming means we have global warming because of greenhouse gases due to business and industry and not simply higher temperature records due to the urban heat island effect?
