Saving the Environment - Do you recycle white goods?

Is there a place near you that you can recycle fridges etc or do they just get dumped.

We have a scrap yard that takes in used refrigerators that are broke down and the metal and parts are reused. That is where we take all of our old appliances if they break down or are not in good enough order to sell.

If you look around in your Newspaper you can always find people looking to buy old ones. If Craigs List is available in your area you can also check there. Some cities also offer a once a year bulk load pickup.

Scrap yards are generally the best place to dump refrigerators, or you could sell it off for others to use if you have a new one. That probably would be the best way so people don't have to keep manufacturing new ones. If it is broken down however, then as simplyme says it is probably best to take it to a scrap yard or some place that will accept 'heavy' sort of appliances.

The only place this can be done is at the scrapyards which are equipped with modern machinery. They break the fridge down into various components. the raw metal is collected and sent for recycling. any working parts which are in good condition can be sent for reuse.

Most dumps at least collect the white goods, they may have to take them somewhere else to dispose of them, but they will take them off your hands. Most places are pretty good with recycling these days. We just need people to get a bit better.
