Default Just installed solar screens - Saves money and the environment

I installed solar screens on all my windows over the last few weekends. So far I think they are really nice. They allow me to keep the curtains open during the day and people can't see in from the outside. I look forward to seeing my electricity bill over the next few months.

Well,a very nice step you've taken. If all people will think like you, then there would not be any power shortages as well as it'll also keep the pollution level to a low value. You definitely save some money from electricity bills.

This is a great idea. I'm sure doing this at my house would cut back on my AC bill tremendously. Was it very expensive to purchase these?

No, not at all. I was able to buy 5 bundles of 10 X 2 feet rolls for $110.00. I also picked up a screen tool (which made the job a lot easier).

Do these screens absorb sunlight to be converted to electricity, or are you referring to saving money because you'll need less air conditioning with them installed?

Sorry, I'm not quite sure what you mean.

I've heard about these and was looking at getting some for our house before we moved but was not really familiar with everything about them or what they do. Good for you though I know one other person who has these in her house and she is very happy with them.

Right. The help by blocking a lot of the sunlight which in turn helps keep the house cooler. They also provide some privacy because during the day people cannot see in when you have the window open.

Hehe your looking forward to your electricity bill. Now that's something new you don't hear every day. The most electricity I use in my house is the computer, so with your solar panels that should really help cut out the bill for you!

Nice investment, I'm sure it will prove both effective to your wallet as well as the environment in the long run.

I've been considering some solar panels as well, just some small ones to to power some basic things. The price seemed reasonable so eventually I might give them a try.

so sad in malaysia where i live and have the sun all the year.... the solar screen tech is too expensive. it cost you around usd 8 to 10k just to install solar system that can power up your light, fan, and 1 tv. not even can power up the fridge... what a waste.. all the sun we have... hopefully the price will go down and i will the first one grab it.

I was planning to install a water heating panel but installing solar screens sound like really cool as the first step. I will check out the price tomorrow and have it installed as soon as possible. Thank you very much for starting this post.

That's a great way to start saving energy...dear Andy....however small the effort might be...

Even at first.... I thought that you equipped your windows with glasses converting solar energy into electrical energy...but then...realized your method of working.

As the "world" suggested, it is however very costly to install such systems using solar energy for lighting up the households.....and it is not affordable for each and every households to install them, unless the government provides some incentive in the form of subsidy for them...

Anyways....best of luck with your energy saving and thereby environment saving plan.

Regards,

Walker

Andy that is a nice, cheap and a very easy to implement Idea of saving electricity at your home. It is true that if your windows are open the sunlight is enough for half of the day unless and until you're doing some specific work.
