How do you recycle old computers?

We got a new computer a few weeks ago and right after we got it connected I realized we needed to get rid of our old one. After calling a few local computer shops I finally found one that would recycle my old computer. How do you recycle your old computers?

For me I keep most of mine. I end up giving them away to someone or have them running in the corner of my home office running Linux or something.

I give my old ones to goodwill. they can restore them and sell them to help the community. I think alot of the major companies do the same thing when they upgrade.

For me having the old computer means that you can get its parts for repairing the new one once something is not working on the new one. Don’t throw it away.

If you do want to get rid of your old computer you might want to check your city website. They might have a list of local places that are willing to take your old computer for free.

In my city, most of the people search for purchasing a second hand computer as they are cheap.
So, honestly, I would sell them for some bucks. It will be about $60 to $100 per computer set!

I agree, selling them is as good as recycling them. If someone is interested in your old computer then you're making someone happy by handing them a bargain and you're also earning yourself a bit of cash.

Well now days people are very much environment cautious.Recyling of computers is also an important part of it.there are many options such as dell computers are offering an option of recyling at the time of purchase.

I usually give my old computers to my kid relatives. I just want them to learn how to operate the computer as well as for gaming purposes.

How can you recycle computers? Are computers recyclable? Computers are re-usable but not recyclable? You can use a computer up until it is working for your needs. But once a computer is no longer able to support the new applications that you are doing, it is already disposable. You need to upgrade components or replace the whole PC instead.

I remember reading about Dell and I am pretty sure HP offering a recycling option when buying a new computer from them. Seems like that was a while back.

Huh, give it to them, they will make it a beauty, and resell it.. I used to do this for ages Sells great.. And all the revenue i give it for charity.. Not faking.. Really.. Because that's my part time and sells like hot cake... My target is 10,431$. After that i will give 50% to charity...

If you want make money of old system, just run a dedicated server. Sort of autopilot income. Yo!

Well if it still works you could fix it up a bit and use it as a spare PC. Or give it to a beginner, not exactly "recycling" but essential it is, as someone else is giving it use again.

Alternatively you could drop it off at a special center, or donate it to something like the salvation army or a local church.

well there are now many such organizations which use the old computer hardware for recycling.
the governments of some countries are even arranging these recycling programs.
Its a good move to handle the environment with care.

I gave them away most of the time but I did keep one for myself using it as a web server. It does not have to be a new/fast one if you build it with linux. You will have better security and you can use it as mail server too. Of course it will take some time, so do it only if you are interested in building a server.

computers are frequently changing due to the advancement in technology ..we should not throw our old computers away just anywhere. rather we can give these computers to needy people especially donating to charity organizations. These computers are sometimes repaired and donated to third world countries such as India and those in Africa.

Well those old computers can be still useful.. Its not you who will make use of it anymore but others who needs it. There are other countries who are really suffering from poverty and others are just lacking of education. So if i were you, i'll donate my old ones on countries who are in need. Philippines and India are countries that i know (as if im from Philippines) As i can see on our country, its really near in the middle of the pit of going down. Government don't care on education. My dad is having a campaign for those schools that computer education aren't good.. Few people from US, Canada is donating old computers and old computer parts and some donate money. Do it for a cause

for recycling there are many companies who recycle your old computers..

Dell for example takes your old computer and recycles it.. or else you can sell it off to an institution who are ready to buy PC with an older technology..

Sell them away if they are still working or if not, some of the old parts from the computer can still be used as well. There are also organizations which may be willing to offer some amount of cash for the computers. Donating them to charity works as well. Just don't throw them away.

or me the best way to recycle it :- give to the one who actually need it (poor people). i guess that is the best source of getting it recycled.. it may be a dream for someone to have computer...what do you say ?

there really are good suggestions here on how to recycle old computers, i've been thinking about how to dispose of an old non-working computer at home. i would take the advice or suggestions listed here for that computer, who knows, i might indeed get some cash for it. thanks!

Just giving it to who needs it.
Giving it to our poor relatives or any educational institutition who needs it. Sell it to a recycling agency. these can really help to protect the environment

I think we should recycle computers but sometimes, if the computer is working, as some of the people say here, we should give it to someone, For Example:

Relatives
Trusted friend
Trusted family member
Donate them.
