Default Growing a garden helps the environment by keeping green

With the growing costs of vegetables this year I Grew a garden and my sis and dad all did too. We shared seeds and then later on the produce and this was incredibly cost saving and fun too.

I live in a duplex and my backyard isn't so big but I was still able to grow a nice sized patch of veggies and there are also community gardens here where if you don't have the space you can help take care of the community garden and what it produces.

I think that growing a garden helps the environment by keeping green since I didn't use any pesticides but natural bug deterrents like oyster shells and I want to know who else has a garden and do you have any tips on natural pesticides and tips.

Yes growing a garden is good for the environment and your doing a good job.. But not everyone can do that... How many can afford a garden? but of course we can plant a few trees...
It is up to us to save our planet, this is a good way of saving our enviroment and fighting against Global warming...
People who are rich and can afford to grow a garden they must do it...

That's right, growing a garden certainly saves our environment..although, just a wee bit, but it's a start..we could lessen the harmful chemicals being thrown out into the air as what is done in major vegetable-producing plants.
Aside from that, we could eat fresh produce, chemical-free veggies, and most importantly, it's free and really good for our health. My family has also started to cultivate the small patch of land in our backyard for this purpose. We already minimized the cost of living by that small garden as well as helping our kids eat fresh vegetables and breath fresh air..

What would you recommend for someone living in an apartment? I can't seem to find a local community garden, though I will be looking in the spring. Are there any plants besides herbs that I can grown indoors? I was thinking something small, like a little tomato plant, I do have a fairly good sized porch.

Planting a tree or growing gardens around the community is definitely a very efficient way of keeping our air clean....

Trees convert and release a lot of oxygen in the air and thereby help us lead a healthy life.

People living in apartments cannot do much in this field except that they can also take care not to at least damage the public gardens. Even if people cannot contribute by growing plants in their own backyard...they can dedicate few hours on weekends to help local municipal bodies to help and maintain the public gardens.

Public gardens are excellent place for people to spend mornings exercising. It helps them take in fresh air and at the same time marvel the beauties of nature.

Walker

Growing own vegetables, spices, herbs and some fruits is a very satisfying green hobby which can be shared by the whole family and eventually the community where you are in. In my place, it is also getting popular. Some are even growing their common vegetables on pots and there are those who are using it as part of their decorative ornaments inside and outside the house.

There are so many benefits for this. First, you can be assured of healthy and fresh harvest. With the widespread use of health-destroying pesticides and artificial chemicals, it is really wise to rather grow our own source of green foods. Second, you are helping the environment as you are reducing the consumption of foods which required more fossil energy to grown and travel. Third, there is a great satisfaction of seeing your own garden bloom and then harvesting it especially with the rest of the family.

I am sure a lot of readers here on the forum will agree with us on the benefits of having a garden. If you have some space, don't just let it be bare, use it to plant something.

I like gardens, it seems that vegetables that you grow yourself are better than vegetables that you might buy in a market-- meaning they taste better. I would be interested in this idea of growing grass on the roof of your house, it's suppose to be a very good for the environment, especially if you live in a concrete jungle, like so many of us...

Has anyone heard of it?

While it is true that growing a garden saves, most small time gardeners do not realize that they are actually creating more waste and harm than good.

I wish more nurseries and garden centers would offer green friendly planter options. Think about all those plastic trays and planters you bring home every year, they add up and none of them can even be recycled. An average gardener generally does not know enough about organic gardening to bring in a good enough crop and gets discouraged quickly or turns to methods that are not environmentally friendly.

Still, I think it is better for people to try than not give it a chance at all.
