will we have a cleaner, greener 2012 amid of the many possible signs of global warming in the world? with a burgeoning population of 7 billion in the world, can we still keep our Mother Earth clean and green? i doubt so.
There have been much climate talks in recents decades such as the climate talks in Cancun, Mexico, Biodiversity Convention talks in Nagoya, Kyoto protcol, Japan and the recent one in Durban, South Africa. however, not all talks have been a success.
Governments are merely carrying empty talks and not walking the talk. even some obstinate governements refused to sign treaties to curb carbon emssion.
the former President George W. Bush withdrew from a few international treaties such as Kyoto Ptotocol despite having as many as 145 countires pledging to curb carbon emissions. In addition, economic development has always been at the expense of environmental deterioration, thus both cannot be compromised.this could be the reason why the former President refused to sign the treaty.
Moreover, our Mother Earth may not be able to achieve the desired goal could be due to the lack of financial resources from less developed nation. their top priority is to industralise the economy and raise the output efficiency.therefore, if they implement green technologies such as hydro and nuclear power plant, this would hamper their effort to develop economically.
Furthermore, Less developed nations must have the prerequisite infrastructure and manpower in order to carry out green technologies. Both they are lacking in it. i proposed the the only pragmatic approach is concerted effort to halt this impending catastrophe- global warming.
in order to do so, developed nation must share their technologies with the less developed nation. switching to green, envrionmententally friendly polices could be a tough call to nations around the world, but this seems to be the more effective way to protect our fragile and vulnerable planet.
i hope individuals should try, even as governmental organsations failed to stop collectively sawing the branch we are sitting on, for we know our planet Earth may not withstand the destruction for long.
