Default California is getting smaller - California will be No more

The other day I saw a show that was saying how eventually California will be no more.

Do you think this can be true?

I didn't catch the whole thing~ I was shocked at what I heard. I guess with the Earthquakes ect, they say California is getting smaller.

What do you think about this?

That's something I haven't thought about for a while, but I've heard about that.

Is it a result of a kind of "erosion" that happens gradually, or is it absolutely dependent on earthquakes?

Is it so? I dont think so. California is very famous city in the world, and if it is true then government should do something to save it.

ricardo, it has to do with erosion. As my father in law put, it's sliding off into the ocean. I really don't think there is anything our goverment or anyone else can do about it.

The earth is constantly changing and we always hope not to notice it. LOL

Eventually shore erosion will shrink most continents. It is easier to deal with it when it happens over thousands or hundreds of years. It only becomes a problem when it happens so swiftly that the population cannot adjust.

Barring any disasters like huge earthquakes or tsunamis, we probably won't notice California's getting smaller

Default its true in a 1000 years

according to the USGS between the earthquakes with the pacific shelf shifting and causing a wider gap between sections, water seepage is just a matter of time.
The way that my geology teacher explained it, its not just erosion on beaches.
You have a few things at play the fault lines are moving and because of that water erosion on the pacific side causes land loss.
eventually, saying 1000 years the section that is on the pacific ocean side of the san andreas will eventually slide and water seepage will create a false bay leading to california to become two sections instead of 1.

so Ricardo yes its both........

Global warming will visit the coast of the U.S as it will the other nations round the world. It is a very real and present danger and something we should be really concerned about. A meter's rise in sea levels will see many coastal habitats inundated. California too will be affected.

If it was really happened, then the only reason I found behind it is denudation. It's a continuous & a very slow process.More & more research must be done about it,hence a correct reason may find out.

I have a good friend who lives in California and she says it is shrinking all the time. While she lives in Northern Cali and is not as close to the ocean, she still says she will have to move someday soon. However, I think she refers to it shrinking because it is becoming more and more populated everyday.

Perhaps earthquakes and erosion from those natural disasters are contributing to my sunny states size, however, for me, it has a whole lot more to do with how many people want and do live in Cali. When you've got almost 38 million people living in one state--almost a 1/5 of USA's total population--, of course it's going to feel like Cali shrinking.
